Yup, I'm a counter leaner.
Bit more complex, *sometimes* i lean a bit to start the turn then as the bike starts to lean i move to a counter lean position for most of the corner |

I counterlean while making slow turns.
I lean with the scooter while making normal turns. I very rarely lean my body farther than the scooter into the turn because I don't go all that fast. |

Useful on public roads when you want to go fast in the twisties - useless on the track though. The speeds involved are so vastly different.

Jimc said what I was going to say. It depends on the mission but counter leaning seems more efficient for normal riding especially at lower speeds.
Watch these guys. This video is hypnotizing to me. Especially at about 3:30 where they do a course side by side with a strap connecting the two bikes. |

I haven't always been conscious of all my exact riding habits, but I know I don't often counter lean.
Makes me think of one of the few times I rode with my (now-) ex on the back. He'd recently taken an MSF course with me, so he knew all the basics. I gave him a few reminders for riding as a passenger before we left, and I've always done so with anyone who doesn't regularly ride. First turn off our street, and the bike wobbled almost violently, in a way that could only have originated with the passenger. I immediately pulled over and asked WTF was going on... "I'm counter leaning so it'll help you with the extra weight." "Did you forget that I just told you to stay in line with me, or look over my inside shoulder, like they taught us in the course‽" "Well yeah, but I'm an engineer, and--" "IF YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN, YOU'RE GETTING OFF AND WALKING!!" The last time he ever asked to ride, years later, he needed a lift to pick up his car from the shop. "Are you going to try and counter lean opposite from me in turns?" "If I feel like--" "Then just call an Uber, because I will leave you on the side of the road." "But they don't operate here yet." "Guess you have a problem, then. I don't carry passengers that compromise my safety." He stayed sitting straight up behind me that time. |
