Hi,
My friend is selling a Vespa T5 mk1. In red. 152 polini kit with race crank goes like stink. But whats it worth?!
Has rust on the underside and by rear indicators and could do with a respray as its a used in all weather scoot.
Ive attached a photo.

Mark 1 T5 has it been ridden all year round?

Has it been waxoiled I'd give it a good going over.

Buyer beware

All that glistens and all that.

Monocoque chassis rot from the inside out.

Good luck.

As an FYI, the T5's tend to rot out under the plastic clip in floor boards, behind the chin spoiler, and inside the rear square tail structure. My T5 was rotten out enough that it lost its square tail (among other areas as well) during my rebuild. I ended up turning into a partial cutdown street racer. It was just easier for me to go that route with all the rust (sandblasted the frame, then section out all the rust, then did an acid dip, then added in new metal panels). Hindsight I could have also just repaired it back to its original form, but it does look pretty cool the current way I have it.

T5's don't grow on trees anymore, so if you love T5's and what they're all about, then definitely go after it and realize that money will need to be spent on the rust repair...or like what Greasy said, go ride it for a year before thinking about painting.

I just gotta say, that round Halcyon Stadium mirror does look WAY out of place on that square tail!

If it has no rot, especially at the tail, I'd go for it. Rust can be treated. As said, ride it, love it and then you can think about what to do with it. Price wise, I think it's a bit high, but probably normal?? for your part of the world. I bought my T5 for 650€ (not many T5s in Greece) but threw in around 3k to get it where I wanted. All personal work, except paint. A friend bought a restored one (red one in pics) for 2100€ and came with a Malossi 172 kit on it. As I see it, they're becoming highly collectible year by year. Good luck on your decision…

My T5…
