I think that Vespa should do something similar to what lambretta and royal Alloy are doing which is recreating the classic style with modern tech. There is this ugly tendency from Piaggo to raise the horizontal line of the rear "cowl" and it exposes too much engine sight. Look at Royal alloy, their new design is sick, the rear "cowl" are very low, very horizontal and it covers most of the engine.

I have to disagree with you. I think Piaggio knows exactly how to design to their heritage. Look at the 946. Debatably the best looking Vespa, ever.
Good news: It's a 21 century 98 Corsa Bad news: It costs...Eleven......thousand....dollars.....US. 1940's cool - 2020's performance. Who amongst us wouldn't trade in everything in their garage? The frenched tail light OMG! ⚠️ Last edited by garncarz on UTC; edited 5 times

The frenched tail light OMG! The Royal alloy and the new Lambretta will sell well for those enthusiast looking for old school design. Both brands truly resemble most of the design characteristics of the old classic lambretta. Piaggio/vespa basically gets away with just about anything design wise, their reputation is so good and quality of the materials is top so they are going to sell well even if their design is questionable.

Cant stand the seat on the 946. Could have added an option by now. Wouldnt pay that price either for a 150cc!
I'd be down for more plastic covering the engine. Doesnt affect anything other than looks! |

The cosa ( meaning Thing) as I understand it in the uk wasn't a Vespa , it was a piaggio cosa. It was a bit later on when they weren't selling that a traditional Vespa badge was stuck on the horn cast but I'm not even sure whether that was by directive of pisggio or the supplier being desperate . This is also a reason in that is not in the piaggio Vespa museum in Italy as it's not classed a Vespa. They are actually very good scooters to drive and have quite a following now. They had a horrible looking front wheel and back plate which could be found on the Indian Lml made 150 Vespa px . Personally I like them, they were ahead of their time and if you think of the Auto GTS they have the same recess in fairing for front wheel. I seem to remember the brakes were pigs to set up as front and rear were dual linked. The pk xl2 in my eyes was like a mini cosa ; I'd drive one of them about now as well as they are quirky.the world wasn't ready for 'The Thing' but now they are like eating marmite , you love it or hate it.

Cosas came branded as Piaggio everywhere, not only in the UK. They came to compete with the automatic scooters of Honda and Yamaha that monopolized the market. Yes, it was ahead of it's time, especially the one with the EBC system (ABS) but they were prone to faults, scooter shops didn't want to deal with them and Vespistis never accepted them as Vespas...
As a scooter in general, it's really great to ride, really planted, with great brakes (combined braking), all the novelties of a modern scooter (e-choke, e-tap, e-start, cargo space under the seat, etc.) but, it's ugly... Personally, I have two Cosas (an MKI with a low tail light and an MKII). I will build one of them in the future but only how it should have come out of the factory (with a T5 headset)... Look how awesome the green one looks (built by a French guy)... |

Agreed. If you are gonna have a cosa.. the t5 headset helps along with some graphics, but it's still a strange bird. It's got the ugly beginnings of the modern front mud guard and leg shield I can't get behind. That stuff just makes all their modern style look snub nosed.

No Sprint, VBB (although not the VBA, which is close enough for the casual fan, I guess), or GL, are shown, and it's not like the Sprint was an oddball scooter. Whippin' it. Real good.

Agreed the green Cosa is the least fugly one ever seen.
As well as many other models, I don't see the P200E in the list. That's quite an oversight. Any reason? Is it not actually a Vespa?

There's a P125x. If the article wasn't called "all the models" it would make more sense. Instead, we get one off weirdo stuff like the super stretched P that has nothing to do with production models and then no P200.

I'm cool with the design up to the P's. Everything after those look like dog poop to me. But I also think they started getting ugly once they moved away from the round cowls. Once they started flattening the top. Just doesn't have the same appeal to me. I'd still ride one though.
