Definitely tighten up the suspension. And if you don't already have them, get some Heidenau K75's. Amazing 8" tires, can't say enough good things about them.

I've seen Heidenau 4x8 tires mentioned too a few times. I think they end up having a larger outer diameter, so maybe a nice little upgear and kind of the best of both the 8 and 10 worlds. Seems hit or miss whether people have issues with them rubbing.

I fabbed up a bracket out of aluminum today. It actually works well because the mirror presses against the headset and I put a little piece of old inner tube behind it to prevent vibration. I'll pull it off and get measurements in the next day or two. And it needs the end cut off past the mirror.

It's been a couple of Those Weeks. Just not feeling great, work kicking my butt, had a great time in Asheville for the weekend, but now I'm even paying the price for that.
On the bright side, I made it back successfully from North Carolina with a couple more scooters literally in tow. Ryan, Tierney's connection, did right by me with the Smallstate and Stella. Both of them actually start and run--the Stella's electric start even works, even if the kill switch doesn't. They'll get their own thread in due time, and the workshop is pretty crowded right now. I need to get the white one turned around and on to its new owner so I can get back to my project. While I was gone, my repop Cushman legshield badge from Shapeways arrived. It looks great and the holes line up with the legshield perfectly, so full of win. Except. I've somehow managed to lose the legshield rivets. AGAIN. I spen almost an hour looking for them, and the workshop was already pretty clean, so I'm at a loss. Maybe they're in a shirt pocket and went through the wash, because as it stands, I'm going to be ordering more legshield rivets...again. |

CM - I think this is what that badge looked like stock.
You are probably fully aware - those stripes were painted. Had some experience with the lathe restore - where I sprayed the tags - then used super fine sandpaper and flat surface to take the edges back to metal. Such a pleasing outcome - very clean look. Are you planning same? Such a nice detail |

I was thinking about about it. I was originally thinking I'd black out the Cushman lettering and a stripe, but now that I've seen it in all its glory, I think I have to repro that.
I wonder if I can get away with nail polish or need to track down some enamel. Blick Art Supplies, here I come... Anyone know the color of that lefthand stripe? (Or any of the other paint codes, for that matter) |

Looks to me like the emblem is also filled with white.
For the love of everything holly. Just let the damn thing fully cure! before you sand... Ask me how I know. With that deep geometry. you are going to get kick ass results. Have to admit - I'd be tempted to take it a little custom and do it in the Italian flag colors. |

Great font and layout, I'd be tempted to do the Italian colours like CM2 mentioned… Didn't know some Vespas came with that. You say you managed to get a small frame? Envious… |

I was a total scale model nerd growing up, to the point of winning competitions. Mostly armor, but a few combat jets, too. Sadly, all before digital photography, so it's now lost to the sands of time (or the landfill). A quality detail brush and some high gloss enamel will be just the thing to paint all of that. I'm still not sure if I'll go with Italian or US flag stripes. I kind've feel like US is more appropriate, but also have another idea that I need to think about a little more. The worst thing about losing the rivets is that there were two little baggies, each with 10 rivets in them. And they're both missing, along with the original bag that they were replacing. Even stranger, I had the same thing happen with the legshield rivets on the GL. It's like there's freakin' Rivet Gnomes hiding out in my workshop.

Sounds like you have many ways to get it done.
RWB will also be very nice. The method I was mentioning is what I used on my machinery label. Soaked it in evaporust until all paint was just wiped off. Then masked the red area and sprayed blk - rattle can. Then did same with red area to blk. That was the only masking. Next - I put it face down on fine sandpaper and all the high spots go back to metal. Don't have a before - but here is the after. Gives super sharp edges. (I did have to use a razor on edges where they had a low spot). Just a thought to add to your other method options.

That's outstanding results, CM2! That thing looks practically new!
I won't have to do anything so dramatic. The ridges are a couple millimeters high, so I expect I'll be able to just enamel. Assuming I do white in the area with the small lettering, I may need to use your method to clean up the small letters, but that's it. Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting that, plus the turn signals sorted and some carb tuning this weekend. Other than the afore-mentioned Rivet Gnome losses, I think I'm in good shape to put a fork in this one for a while in the next few days and get the Stella sorted so I can send it off to its forever home. |

Lol…I played football for a season in middle school. I remember everybody banging their heads against the locker and playing that Quiet Riot song. While life is good in Smallie Land, over in Plaid Land, things took a turn for the worse today. I put the venturi that was originally on this motor back on it (stole it off the Sprint/200), went out to run a couple errands, and on the way back, it seized up hard. Like, flywheel totally stuck.
Got home and the screw holding the venturi on had worked its way loose and made its way into the intake. So depending on how far into the motor it made it, I'm either going to be pulling my spare BGM out of the box or going reed. Maybe both. I'm not even going to worry about it until tomorrow, though. At the earliest. |

Thanks!
As strange as it may sound, I feel better that I got downed by a loose nut than bad jetting. It sucks about equally, but at least I didn't just screw up on the jetting (CHT was only about 200f when it blew up). I had some tweaking on the carb and gears, but now I *really* have some tweaking to do.

That sucks. Vespa rotary intakes just seem so hungry for steel. Of all the things that can rattle loose and fall off a bike, it always seems to be the stuff right next to the rotary intake. I bet if you rode a Vespa down the highway with the cowl and filter off it would suck broken backing plates, rusty nails and steel belted retreads right off the pavement.
