Morning / afternoon / evening all!

It's Paolo from Sydney, Aus here - proud owner of two PX 200 (one for daily use, the second one with only 1,400 km on the clock mainly for the lounge !).

I have a question for the locals.

I'm out for a shop / sole trader / person that can do a full respray on my PX (not the display one!)

- Full paint strip (sandblasting), due to some rust and some previous repair done with rattle can (God forbid them…)
- Corrosion protection
- Some panel beating (not much to be honest, but there are some dents to be removed, and the usual deformation where the central stand bolts)
- full respray.

Paint shops are fairly expensive, when and if they decide to take the job on board. I am happy to dismantle the bike and to bring the bare parts (which takes most of the time), but I am ideally after someone (maybe someone semi-retired that works as sole trader?) that can do the job at a decent price.

I am aware that it takes quite some time to do it (I've done it myself in my previous life – here I simply don't have the space and the place where to do the job).

Any suggestiong / anyone that you might know? PM is fine if we don't want to disclose details.

Thanks heaps!

Hey mate. I just got a price to paint my Super that's fully stripped. Sandblaster wanted $250 and painter $1500. Both are in Marrickville. That price was without actually seeing the scoot so I reckon painting might be a bit more as it will need some panel beating too.

Feel free to send his contact via PM, happy to have a chat with him. Indeed there is a bit of panel beating (not much tho) - Vespa in overall in decent conditions (it's a 2005, not very well look after but still half decent conditions!).

Do you know if they do mainly scooter / motorbike or is it a smash repair that does "whatever" ? (I am happy either way 0 just curious!)

Hey G, you thinking about painting the super? Let's discuss.

yeah... it's on the docket of "scooter things to be accomplished" but it may be a flat black rattle bomb as per the order from the war department...

also, it's fugly and needs an ASS ton of panel work.

now, the Lambretta on the other hand...

No worries. I'll try to get some contact details for you. The sandblaster said he's done Vespas before. He said he doesn't do aluminium headsets or the cowls because the blasting pushes the metal in so basically he just does the frame and mudguard. The painter does cars. He was recommended by my mechanic who restores old Fords. His work looks good. He's Vietnamese and was super excited to see pics of the Vespa and happy to do it. Like I said, you'd have to strip the scoot down. Where in Sydney are you? Both these guys are in Marrickville.

I just had my P200E painted plus some light work on the cowls included for $700 US dollars which is $971 Australian dollars. The engine wasn't remove nor the glove box nor it was painted underneath. For that price I was satisfied.

Most of the times spending too much on a paint job doesn't get much return if you ever sell it, it is a expense that sometimes you have be willing to accept.

Pretty sure Ebath could sort out a far better deal, without the need for deaths, & likely enough left over to buy another Vespa

Apologies, missed the notification via email (I though I was subscribed…). Price seems not too bad, indeed he will be doing frame, no mudguard (will replace it, not worth the hassle) and the glovebox (but not the door, that's new cuz the previous owner riveted a can holder on it). Al don't need to be sandblasted.. no rust there!

Will try to get a good set of pics tomorrow if I can, so the painter can have a proper view and do a more accurate quote. Indeed, I will bring frame & parts only - all dismantled from engine, wiring, fork and other accessories. Possibly degreased already too (makes the job less messy).

Not sure where you live - but I am sure that in Italy it would have cost me sort of that figure max as well. Sydney is incredibly expensive though, from leasing the workshop to pay panel beaters and painters.. hence final price has to reflect the cost to run the business…. Unfortunately!

Ebeth (koenig blues) is in Indonesia so not much help in your instance, however, his paint jobs are usually under $100, well under!
We just wish we could bring him to Australia to do a few restos.

I guess for that number you cannot even get a decent 2 pack acrylic paint here…!
