Hi all,

Quick question, hopefully someone can help me. What's the weight of the piston (with two rings and pin) for the Malossi Kit 210cc (Malossi sport)?

Sorry that I am not giving you the exact answer but I want to clarify something. There are at least two versions of the double ringed piston Malossi 210 sport. I have two Malossi 210 Sports from the previous version(2013) but they changed the design in recent years and now the piston has the dark skirts with the low friction coating. What piston do you need a reference? the older version or the newer version?

Piston weights 224g including rings but not including the pin.

It looks like you have to take some chemistry class just to keep up with the terminology of the fancy alloys that Malossi is putting out:

"from 2016 these are now supplied with a new lighter Vertex piston that has a molybdenum sulphide coating on the piston"

Indeed my chemistry is not up to scratch!!

I was already tying to look like the smartass, but probably it would have been better to describe it as "the black stuff all around" - would have lowered everyone expectations!!!

Thanks heaps!

For those interested.

- MHR Piston with its ring weights 231grams.

- Pin (not included in the 231) accounts for additional 48 grams.

- Grand sport pin (bi-conic) weights 38 grams (if you want to cut some weight)

Just checked (I have a MHR kit ready).

The pins are sort of heavy. I am not an expert but when I had them on hand they are bulky and it appears to be of stainless steel. On a different note, it is insane how Malossi keeps pushing the technology to use the piston as a way to push air in, through and out. The modern pistons are skeletons of a conventional piston yet way more capable of pushing air around and reving faster..

I wouldn't be surprise if the next generation of cylinders they come up with that nano coating technology of ultra low friction like AMG uses on their engines.
