Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a new Primavera, but after reading some horror stories about previous Vespa's and rust, I'm wondering if the 2022 Primavera is also prone to this. I have read that after 2018 paint quality and thus corrosion protection was improved.

Also, are there any quality front mudflap extensions available and can you, par example spray the underside with ACF50 without damaging the paint?

As one who is currently rebuilding a GTS with moderate rust, I can tell you that it's no big deal if you take steps to avoid it. My 2014 GTS has absolutely no rust. The bike I am rehabbing... a 2016 GTS, came from a northern state with ice and snow, and rust in the battery pan, the hollow open column behind the steering column, and along the front seam. It was all still mostly surface rust, and has not come even close to rusting through anywhere.

To ameliorate, I sanded the front seam down to metal, knocked off all the flaking paint in the battery well and under the bike. I then used a gel deruster in two 24 hour sessions. I followed up with a rust converter metal prep, three topcoats of paint and a half dozen coats of clearcoat. When all was dry and cured, I cavity waxed the whole thing the battery compartment and the hollow cavity behind the steering wheel, and all of the folded seams. With respect to rust, I strongly believe the bike will now last longer than me.

If you want to avoid rust, especially if you live somewhere that salts the road in the winter, cavity waxing the battery compartment, the hollow compartment, and the seams behind the glovebox and under the floor should prevent rust. If you ride through salty slush, flushing the battery compartment of salt is also advised. You don't want salt sitting IN your bike.

I got the 2016 GTS very cheap... $1400, so I have about $1500 to spend on rust remediation and engine rebuild... and the project is almost complete. I'll post a picture when done...
