Looks like he just lets it bleed out at the caliper and keeps topping it off at the handlebars (knowing how much of the new bottle he needs to use to displace the old fluid).

I'm surprised - I thought you needed to run the ABS pump with a Piaggio computer to get the lever feel correct. I wonder if there's a difference in how clean the fluid is between the two methods. (Sounds like lever feel doesn't change so long as you ensure you don't let air in at the handlebars.)

I was surprised too, because general consensus seems that with abs, you should activate the pump.

But I trust Robot completely. If I understood him correctly, you only need to activate the pump if you somehow get air in your system.

AFAIK air in the system is not a result of old braking fluid, but of either forgetting to top off a leaking system (so that air gets in through the reservoir) or of a wrongly performed flush (i.e. flushing without filling up the reservoir on time).

Old fluid only leads to moisture in the system. I think!

So I'm happy with Robots advice. Another part of maintenance which I can do by myself then .
