The SS is in near perfect mechanical condition and rides like a dream after all the work I have done. Instead of finding a fifth Vespa ( although another small frame would be fun) I am thinking about tackling the SS.
It is covered with a couple of badly-done, white paints and no chance of saving original paint. It has it's share of wear and tear and I wouldn't cry if I scratched it. There is also a bit of rust in the rear of the tunnel. I have restored three Vespas and a Tv200 and I like the process (most of the time) and it needs nothing mechanical.
Any arguments against changing from Biancospino ( like the Allstate 125 ) to Bleu Pavone other than the visibility factor ? I am not a red fan. If there was a stock green, I'd go with that.

I think Blue Pavone is absolutely delicious. Such a unique blue.

Regardless of color, I will say when you strip the old paint avoid the urge to do media blasting. It is the fastest method, but I am still finding sand in nooks and crannies that were taped or plugged. The media just went everywhere. If I had to do my SS180 over I would have stripped it chemicals and elbow grease. 2 cents.

I've done it both ways after all welding and grinding and I do like the result but I think I'll skip the blaster this time. None of the scoots I had done were as much of a mess to clean up as the Bugeye body was. I have a small cabinet for the little pieces.

in before yellow or orange! ha!

I always thought a light blue with a subtle metallic would look snazz. like 68 Chrysler *22-1 Hawaiian Blue or even (rolls eyes) (sighs) chevy marina blue or... OR.... 69 Plymouth Seafoam Turquoise!

silver would be an interesting choice as well, the MV's have several interesting shades and metal flakes

a modern auto green like from Audi or BMW, not the screaming racy colors but something more subtle.

I'd love a green Vespa and I like the second one SEB posted. There don't seem to be any Piaggio greens I do like. Even though I am not a purist, there's something to keeping an SS 'in the family' and the Pavone is a pretty cool color. I have plenty of time to make this decision.....
The bike's completely dismantled and I am just cleaning it up and will put up a few pics later. Other than a half-assed rattle can paint job, it is unmolested. There was no speedo when I got it but I can tell there are relatively few miles on it.

how's the paint underneath the rattle bomb?

It looks like it was mostly stripped. Very little of the original paint remains under the new Rustoleum white.

You can see where it was masked and stripped, then masked and painted.

Fortunately, whenever it was repainted there was a minimal amount of body work done and no filler used.
