it's probably not in their data base because it's an imported bike. and if I had to guess, from south east Asia.
bet you dollars to donuts that's a made up vin that's been restamped. |

17 digit VINS started in the mid-1980s.
Piaggio didn't have them, so added ZAP plus a bunch of zeroes or random characters to the beginning to make 17, and it was just on a sticker. In California, you can register older bikes with their original VINs. |

Yeah bit off hassle looks like I'm going have to go down the route off getting them nova and registered as imports even tho I have some bikes with documents when was registered UK in 60s but when enter registration online nothing shows so mybe when the updated there records to v5 paper forms not showing

In the U.S., you can call the Department of Motor Vehicles and give them the ten digit VIN and they'll tell you if it's stolen or not.
If it's not in the stolen or fined database, you can get a Vermont registration. Then take that Vermont registration to your local department of motor vehicles and get a title in your state. Good luck! ⚠️ Last edited by qascooter on UTC; edited 1 time

I've never had a problem registering an old bike in California.
If it's not in the system, that's probably because the registration expired 50 years ago. You just say you bought it for $75 at a garage sale, and they'll be like "fill out this statement of facts." Then it's fine! |

Look up Rob Skipsey on Facebook. He deals with DVLA all the time. £100 quid and saves you lots of headaches as he does it all.

Maybe I've had too much wine. I see Vespa serial numbers and Lambrettas in the same string of discourse.

Seems like this person might be better off talking to a shop or auction house or something.
Looks like they inherited the estate of a passionate scooter collector person, and are looking to sell it. |

Those are Lucas 576 spot and fog lights on the first lambretta picture.
Apart from that, maybe post up a pic of the vespa you are trying to sort the vin number on, and the vin itself. |
