I have the BV now for 3 years. I keep track of my mileage.
It turns out to be quite stable at around 4200km/yr or 2600 miles/yr. We have 4 cars and 1 scooter and the scooter is the only of our 5 vehicles that is in its use hardly or even not influenced by Corona. |

When I first got into PTW with scooters, I was averaging over 10k miles annually. Since those first couple of years, it's waxed and waned between a low of 1-3k (low mileage AND low physical/mental health) and a rough high of 6-8k.
This is with day trips and staying local-ish. When I start doing overnights and multi day trips, I expect to hit 5 figures annually again. I've noticed that I'm a happier, calmer person when I stay moving. Edit to add: I've also noticed that my mileage doesn't really vary between motorcycles and scooters too much. Displacement has ranged from 125cc at the beginning to going back and forth between 300cc and 900cc. |

I average 40-50 miles a week, so 2080-2600 miles. I ride a Piaggio Liberty 150. The thing I like is 85-95 mpg vs my car at 25 mpg, and not being a road hog single person in a car. |

Of the miles covered, I'd be interested to know what the split is between riding for pleasure compared to communiting for work, shopping etc.
Mine is 1000 miles per year all for leisure. |

6000-7000 miles split between my BV350, GTS 300i, and Kymco Downtown 300i.
I try to split miles evenly, so each bike gets 2000 to 3000 per year. I do maintenance in the winter so I can just check oil and tires through the rest of the year. |

The first year I had Melody, I was still transitioning from permit to license, and just getting used to piloting something with an engine for the first time in ages, so mileage was relatively low. Second year saw a leap in mileage as I began to explore secondary roads with greater curiosity, as well as taking baby-steps out onto the big slabs. Years three through five were major: I started the bolder steps of riding from home up to Gotham, then to Philly, and was piling on 200-300mi weeks on a regular basis, punctuated by a crash last May (which took out the bike for five months while awaiting parts at the dealer), and one in December (which took out Melody for good, and knocked me for a bit of a loop myself). Once I'm back on the road in a handful of days–finally–I'll be slowly ramping the miles back up, partly to get used to the new ride (the face is familiar, but otherwise…), and partly to pay heed to the bike's initial break-in period (which wasn't an issue with Melody when I first got her, since I couldn't do a hell of a lot on a learner's permit anyway). But the short answer to "how many miles?" in my case is: lots. ⚠️ Last edited by amateriat on UTC; edited 1 time

Generally, I take the car for 3 reasons: 1, cargo that the bike won't do. 2, I looked at the weather & gave in. 3, I plan to sleep in the car en route. I don't typically ride for the sake of riding a scooter or motorcycle. I'll go exploring and prefer the bike, but it's not just for riding. I did that on a bicycle, but that was more for the joy of full-body movement. That's just me, though. To each their own. |

Since someone was wondering, my 8000 miles a year are mostly commuting. I rarely ride for pleasure. My wife no longer rides passenger since I hit a dip in the pavement and made her sciatica nerve act up. I still love riding though!

I rode somewhere between 8,000-9,000 the first 12 months of owning my Vespa. In comparison, I only about about 2,500 miles in my truck during that same time frame. Weird!

I used to commute most of the year on my bike when I lived 7 miles away. Now I take the car or truck. It's just too dangerous to ride a bike that far in that kind of traffic. So that leaves motorcycles for days off and trips. We don't get a lot of vacation days here so there aren't too many days you can actually take a bike out. Plus most people just ride to a coffee shop on the weekend and ride back home. Maybe doing 20 miles. ⚠️ Last edited by MVP on UTC; edited 1 time

For my first 20 years of scootering, 1960-1980, I averaged 10,000 miles a year. Now in my old age I do about 3000 miles a year.

When I got mine, my insurer asked me to estimate how far I'd ride in a year. I scribbled together an estimate: if I bicycled to work halftime, Vespaed the other half, and took one weekend trip a month, I'd ride about 2000mi per year. They retorted: "the national average is 12,000," and I laughed "it's a Vespa!"
I was just shy of 6 months in when the pandemic hit, with 3333mi on the odometer. (Obviously using it a lot more than I'd planned.) I spent a lot of time during the pandemic visiting family across the bridge, which effectively turned my 8 mile commute into a 35 mile one. If you skip over the five months I was away at the end of last year, I've got 20,500mi in about two years. I almost gutted my coverage while I was away. Didn't realize it would be so long. I ended up wasting close to $300 on insurance I didn't need. |

Not so much how far....but how often..
Since bringing home my Kymco LIKE200I in the spring of 2013, I have ridden a scooter in each month - at least once - here in Ohio. O.S. My mileage is spread across Honda, Suzuki, Kymco and Piaggio scooters. Each, from the least expensive (Kymco) to the most (Burgman), have proven to be utterly reliable, well made and fun to ride. |

I have complete fuelling records since 2008 covering my ownership (one at a time) of 2 Vespa 125s, a Honda Forza 125 and my current Honda Monkey 125.
I live in the south west of England and on average it shows that I cover about 3000 miles annually. My riding period is through March to about the middle of October. All of that mileage is recreational and have been retired since 2013. somerset |

My commute is short as I work less than one mile from my home.
So most of my mileage is for fun. And because riding brings much joy, I ride a lot. I keep track of fill ups so I can keep mileage on my scooters, and have ridden between 13,000 and 18,000 miles per year since 2010. While many of the rides are around Florida, highlighted by the Oyster Tours with Lostboater, I also enjoy riding to other areas of the country, and Europe as well. These include most of the US including Hyder, AK, Western Canada, Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and France. Three Scooter Cannonball Runs were started, and finishing 2016 in Mukilteo, WA was a thrill. Also two stupid Saddle Sore 1000's. I ride much more than drive my four wheel vehicles, only because it is so much more fun to be on two wheels. Bill Rocket & Me

It is roughly 1 hour to work and 1 hour back home. For commuting I take the car. Never took the scooter to go to work although it would be faster, for sure, but for the daily commute the car is so much more comfortable whatever the conditions may be. So the scooter is for leisure. I do most of my driving in the weekends. |

I know the exact miles because I have a scooter related business and my tax preparer requires it. Howard |

Last year was my first on 2 wheels, and I logged about 6k miles split between two scooters, virtually all recreational. This season I hope to commute via scooter a lot more often, that will be about 40 miles round-trip.

Before covid, I rode about 12.000 km per year. 80% of it commuting, the rest for pleasure. And all of it was on my Kawasaki, since I didn't have the GTS yet.
Since covid, it's much less...about 6.000 km per year. Most for pleasure, since most work is done from home now. |

In pre-covid years I did typically between 35.000 and 40.000km annually. In 2020 it was 17.000km and in 2021 only 14.000. Since I graduated and started working life back in 1986 there has never been a year with such a low mileage. |
