I am not using the scooter for commuting and as I said earlier here there is hardly any difference in mileage.

But it is different for the car. In pre-covid years I did typically between 35.000 and 40.000km annually. In 2020 it was 17.000km and in 2021 only 14.000. Since I graduated and started working life back in 1986 there has never been a year with such a low mileage.
I don't commute for work, but it still really cut down on my annual mileage. I restricted to essential only travel and basically holed up at home. The fact that most places shut down public restrooms really encouraged this for me. Add in no-contact delivery, curbside-only pickups, and drive-through only access to most places for a long while...drive through on a bike doesn't work very well. Laughing emoticon Facepalm emoticon
As I adjusted to the massive wrench the whole thing threw into my routines and found workarounds, I was able to find ways to choose the bike more.
There was also a two year long fight with doctors I was stuck with until I won in early 2021. Their treatment was effectively forcing me to give up riding and most of my independence. One of them even said that was the idea. Yeah...HELL no.

Mayorofnow,

Your insurance agent was for sure referring to average annual miles in a car.
I believe the introductory article was very accurate for the USA.

Two wheels - 2000 average annual miles.

Four wheels - 12,000 average annual miles.

For the rest of you good two wheeled folks, the annual miles seem to be impacted by:

1. Do you commute?
2. Just used for leisure enjoyment?
3. Do you live up North and are frozen out 5 months of the year?

I now almost exclusively use my scooters for group rides and around the neighborhood.
Average 3000 miles a year. Commuting in the car 11,592.

Four wheels annually 12000 miles or 19000km in the US.

I was expecting it to be higher.
Here in BE in 2019, last pre-corona year, on average it was 18000km or 11000 miles.
In 2020 it dropped to appr 9000 miles and in 2021 increased back to appr 10000 miles.

You seem in a, let's say, non-average situation. I hope you can keep on riding.

So far, so good...by hook or by crook.

Two wheels is my primary, preferred transport for everything. The car is for cargo & animals. That's the goal, at least. My car mileage dropped almost as much as the bike mileage over the past two years. I've done car free for most of a year before. I'm hoping to do it again for longer.

Some doctors really hate motorcycles and can be discriminatory. Some doctors have a god complex. I ended up being transferred to one that was both and didn't seem to like the idea of a disabled motorcyclist that was still riding.
I'm not normally petty or vindictive... but I kinda want to run into him around town so he can see that 1, I'm STILL riding and 2, I managed to get the procedure he tried to sabotage my efforts on AND 3, I was right about it.
(His treatment was causing 24/7 vertigo, which made it impossible for me walk, let alone drive or ride.)

Cheshire,

Good on ya, sir! Nobody's infallible and you have to be an advocate in your treatment. I respect that you fired your doctor and found another path forward which netted a better outcome.

I had a similar situation with a hematologist while being treated for ITP about a decade ago. I had my doubts about a splenectomy. Ultimately, I negotiated a titer test in exchange for agreeing to a surgical consult. When he disregarded the lab result and scheduled the surgery without telling me, I fired him. Found a doctor who was familiar with the lab findings and went on two-month antibiotic course. Been fine since.

Get a helmet cam and share the video when you see the guy.

Petercc,

I would have never guessed annual car miles driven in Belgium to be 11,000.
You guys are really hitting the road. Plus your cost of petrol is relatively high.

Even though we have some huge geography, the majority of the population
lives in or around major urban centers in the USA.

I thought all you European folks dove 1 mile to the coffee shop then 1 more mile
to work. I also thought everyone was using mass-public-transit.
