No, you have to take the whole front end apart to get to the steering tube and the lower bearing.

The upper bearing can be accessed by removing the plastic shroud that covers the handlebar.

Also, there are no zerk fittings or access point to stick in a grease gun.

Look at it this way. Beats have the steering notch while going down the road, especially at freeway speeds.

While it is labor intensive, it is pretty much a one time deal and if Piaggio would have done their job properly and used a good grease this wouldn't even be a point of discussion.

The upper is pretty much readily accessible by removing the upper shroud on the handlebars.

Given the center tube doesn't support any weight, I'd be surprised if anyone had steering notch due to lack of lube there.

It's the side tubes that carry weight, and it's there the notch problems have occurred.

True, but that lower bearing is pretty much exposed to the outside elements especially water so why take a chance?

When I took mine apart there was hardly any grease on the lower bearing and the upper bearing was practically bone dry. And this was when the bike was practically brand new. Quality is job 1 simply isn't in Piaggio's mantra.

Pretty amazing that they continue to stick with such below par basic materials such as grease that becomes hard and coolant that turns to rust.

I agree with your comment regarding steering bearings on the MP3. I am puzzled though, with your coolant comment. I have owned 5 liquid cooled Piaggio scooters through time (including an MP3). Changed the coolant in each bike every 2 years and never had any issues with rust in the coolant.

As long you change the coolant every 2 years you will not have this issue. It is those who ignore the 2 year change or worse keep riding on the coolant that was put in at the factory that have the issues. See link

I use genuine VW/Audi coolant which is the same G12 spec and has the same pink dye as the coolant that comes from Piaggio
