So I haven't used my Vespa PX125 2016 for a few days due to the winds as I live in a coastal town in the UK and this morning when I went to start her I could see that the petrol tank had emptied with the petrol all over the drive. She started straight away until the carburetor had emptied as I turned the petrol off. I was wondering if anyone has any idea why this happened because the petrol seemed fresh and the scooter had been standing unused for the last 4 days. Would the wind have blown the carburetor open? I'm just asking before I start stripping her down and just asking for an easy fix. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I think wind would be an unlikely cause. The carb is well sheltered from wind. Have you had extremely cold weather? I wonder if a bit of water in the petrol froze in the carburetor float valve.
I would let the scooter warm up, then try running it with just a small amount of fresh petrol in the tank.
Will lock and leave the above response bc of double post. In a better world I would merge the topics, but I dont have time to dust off and consult the Moderator Manual for Rare Moderator Functions.
