I have a new Vespa and I bought it from a dealer 80 miles away so I was wondering if taking the Scoot to a local guy in my town is a valid option as I can just drop it off and pick it later in the day or whether the work needs to be done by a official Vespa dealer?

I like going to the dealer for very particular stuff. I had an Aprilia that kept throwing sensor error codes, I knew the special dealer tool would be needed, it went to the dealer. Common maintenance? I do myself. Common maintenance I don't feel comfortable doing myself? Local shop.
If you bought a new one you might want to look into what you do/don't need to maintain your warranty in the UK. For example, in many countries just having the receipt for oil and filter counts as proof that you did in fact change oil and filter. I'm not familiar with how things work over there for warranty. Was there any particular job you were wondering about?

If it a new scooter, it has an initial service due around 500 miles. That should include oil and filter change, gear oil change and a once over wrenching and inspection of critical components. Then a test ride to make sure everything is working correctly. Notice I said "should include" but that doesn't guarantee it will be done. It depends on the dealer.

if the dealer threw in a first service as part of purchase, then sure, it'd be wise to take it on back.
if not, then any competent mechanic should be able to do a satisfactory job. you don't need to take it to a dealer to keep the warranty valid. just keep your receipts of work performed and supplies bought.

If you want to be 100% certain, you can just shoot Piaggio UK a message directly here: https://www.vespa.com/gb_EN/contact-form/ I used to work for a couple manufacturer's head offices in Canada, you wouldn't be the first person to ask. They probably already have an answer in a document that they copy and paste. |
