wild times. I was trying to run some comps on GTS250's so I could price my project bikes accordingly and literally there was nothing out there. admittedly I didn't check FB, but the only things I saw were 2~3yr old bikes in the 6~7K range and GT's in the 4's with a few 10 yr old 250's clocking in at 5~6

now all of a sudden a beater 250 at 2500 doesn't sound too bad!
A beater GTS 250 in good running order should find a good home quickly at $2,500. There are fools starting to look for cannonball scoots and that would be perfect.

Got hella lucky with my GTS. Killer deal on a slightly dented scoot that needs a few small fixes.

Bet everyone who pooh-poohed this bike back then is kicking themselves now.

I'm playing with the idea of selling my S150 too...I did some poking around and it is hard to get decent comps. It has 3 miles on the clock and I pretty much went thru the entire scoot. Got nothing but time when the weather turns in my neck of the woods lol

My advice: watch Facebook Marketplace like a hawk, and include in that hawklike behavior a willingness to pounce immediately when you see what you want.

Pouncing means dropping everything to go see the machine in person with cash in hand, and being ready to deal hard right away if you like what you see.

I got two of my three scooters exactly like this. Had I waited another hour I would have missed them. (The third was a Beo 500 that had lingered on the market in upstate NY all winter. Different acquisition strategy.)
All of this but just to add: Expand that search filter.
I'm looking anywhere within 500 km. The last bike I bought was 5 hours away. The last bike I sold I delivered 3 hours away.
Saved a fortune on the bike I bought. Was very happy with the bike I sold.

I often hear you find the best deals when you aren't shopping.

One day I rode my Ducati Monster to a Yamaha shop, and the sales guy asked me to consider a Ducati 900 SS he got in trade. The service guys declined to do maintenance on it so it was as is, no warranty. I rode it a while and passed on it. He called me at a Chinese restaurant with a price of $1700 OTD. My fortune cookie said "Don't worry take a chance". I rode the bike home that night, and weeks later met the former owner who had upgraded the hell out of it at some expense. The best bike I ever owned.
Totally. I've gotten a couple free or almost free bikes mostly just out of right place, right time.

Once was a theft recovery someone just didn't want to deal with. A couple times have just been telling people honestly, "Fixing it is going to cost you X, you'll probably sell it for Y when it's fixed, you'll net Z."

At that point sometimes they'll say, well, do you want to just buy it from me for Z. If it's a cool bike I'll buy it just to make it a winter project.

Then there was the "Penny Saver" & "Nickel Saver" newspapers. The place where one who could not afford a classified ad offered their prized possessions for sale. Just about everything and anything. They usually were quite honest about the description and price.
