I just saw that GoGo Gear is having a huge sale on their Signal Jacket - $49 instead of $179. https://www.gogogearla.com/the-signal-jacket/ I went ahead and ordered one since I already have the armored hoodie and I love it. This is the same hoodie, but with indicator lights on the back.

Wondering if anyone has installed this or something similar on their Vespa? I generally avoid anything to do with electrical, but this seems doable. Would greatly appreciate any tips or insights from anyone who has done something similar in the past.

And thanks for all of the excellent advice I've gotten from MV so far. Happy almost-Spring!

Ok, truthfully, I'm not a fan of electrical, but since this was up all day and no one has wanted to help you I'll take a stab at it for what it's worth lol...

"Wondering if anyone has installed this or something similar on their Vespa?"

No but I've helped install, on KYMCO scooters, wireless third brake lights. All you needed to be able to do with that OEM kit was install a tail light bulb, and then stick the 3rd brake light to the back of a top case or possibly a helmet.

I kind of wish GoGoGear had done a similar wireless system where you just carry a little battery in your pocket, as opposed to cutting into the harness.

As a general note on cutting into your wiring harness, does this jacket include any kind of connectors? If not you can get some easy-peasy butt connector and crimper from Harbor Freight for $10: https://www.harborfreight.com/electrical/electrician-s-tools/plugs-terminals-connectors/305-piece-solderless-terminal-kit-67684.html

Similar sets on Amazon seem to go for 3x the price based on a quick look.

Some people, maybe even smarter ones than me, might suggest getting a cheap soldering iron, rather than crimping. If it's your first time getting into your wiring harness you might just want to go the easy root with the $10 kit.

Sorry for the very general answer. If you have a more specific question I can try again.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. The jacket does not come with connectors, but I have some that could be used for this purpose. I don't have any specific questions at the moment, but might once I have everything in hand. I was more just looking for general wisdom on the subject.

I have a soldering iron and am quite experienced at soldering, but not for electrical purposes. I have soldered a lot of brass and steel wire used for model making over the last 20 years, and I imagine the skills transfer pretty well. Not entirely sure that I would want to go that permanent on the install until I know if I like the set up, but it's definitely worth thinking about.

In the end if the electrical part doesn't work out it will still be great to have another armored hoodie that cost me less than the one I have. And I bought that one used on ebay!

Thanks again.

A motorcycle/scooter jacket that you can't get wet... Facepalm emoticon

NOTE: The "Signal Jacket" is NOT waterproof. Care should be taken to ensure the lights and inside wiring do not get wet. DO NOT launder the jacket with the LED lights and wiring left inside the jacket. GoGo Gear will not be responsible for any damage or defect to the LED lights or wiring in the event the jacket gets wet.

Well, I am in San Diego, so rain isn't a concern for me, but totally get why that would be off-putting for many!

I really like my non-lighted hoodie from them. It's a heavy sweatshirt fabric and there's a kevlar lining in addition to the armor. It is a little bulky, so depending on how snug your leather is, it might be a tight fit, but worth a try especially at the sale price.

I'm in Phoenix, so rain is a real rare event here too. But sometimes it happens and the thought that it would ruin the electronics in the jacket make it a "no" for me.
