Should the Sears tag model number under the front of the seat match the chassis number stamped on the frame on the left side under the cowl? They don't on my '66 BB VLB. The title VIN matches the chassis number.

No, they won't match. Here's a link to a list of the Sears model numbers. Your Sears model number should be 788.94360.

Great, thanks for the reply. I bookmarked that page, some interesting info. Especially the story of the family with a 7-month old baby making the 1400 mile trip from Miami to Chicago on a vespa on 14 gallons of gas over 7 days!
