Does anyone have any experience of the Aprilia 6.5 Moto ?
I know the story behind the bike and it's designer but has anyone actually owned one ?
3 have become available locally so I might go and check a few out.

Actually, you'd be the man to ask.
What would spares be like to locate for this particular vehicle, apart from the answer I'm expecting which is difficult ? |

I thought it had the same engine as the BMW F650 of that era, which was a Rotax. Those were assembled by Aprilia for BMW in the same plant they built the Pegaso. But in looking over the specs, sometimes the engine specs given doesn't match the Rotax. When you hear five valves, only one company comes to mind. And the displacement is off for the Rotax. That was 652, this is 649. So they might have made it with two different engines. Aprilia did get engines from Minarelli around this time too. If it has the Rotax, plan on getting replacement parts at the BMW dealer, because Piaggio isn't going to have anything. If it has the Yamaha engine, it's basically the same Minarelli engine used in the Tenere, the big racing quad and the MZ Baghira, so it should be easier to get engine parts.
As far as the other stuff, electronics, etc, Aprilia used off the shelf components, so you should be able to hunt down everything you need that isn't unique to that particular model. Here the description doesn't match the Rotax engine, but the picture doesn't match either description. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/aprilia/aprilia_moto_6.5%2095.htm

That's incredibly helpful of you.
It's starting to look like a quirky parts bin special isn't it, albeit a striking one. From what I've read the Rotax is more of a revvy unit rather than being a thumper. |
