I was given a "close call" reminder recently that my tool kit is lacking a tire pump. I have a battery jump pack & tire patch kit, but no way to reinflate when Murphys Law has me roadside in the middle of nowhere without cellular signal on a weekend.
I'm not fond of CO2 cartridges. Ideally, I'd like something that can also be used on any schrader valve (car, motorcycle, scooter, bicycle), but lack of hubcap clearance isn't a dealbreaker. Any suggestions?

I have one similar to this, except it's an older model without the gauge. It fits into a case that's about 6" x 6" x 2". That's the smallest 12V pump I've found. I've never had to use it to fix an actual flat, but I have tested it, and used it a few times to top off a tire. It can completely inflate a scooter tire in less than five minutes. I don't carry it with me all the time, just on some longer trips along with a tire plug kit. This is a screenshot of a "Slime Power Sports G2 Tire Inflator" at RevZilla.

I have a Stop & Go tire repair kit with compressor and mushroom plugs. I added a few sticky string plugs as well just in case a mushroom plug wouldn't get the job done. Be sure to start the bike before running the compressor to avoid a flat battery.

Also might consider using Ride-On tire sealant.

That's the patch kit I have but it didn't include a compressor. Finally had to use it after carrying it for years. I had just gotten home after a long day trip the day before: came out to notice a nail in my new tire. Facepalm emoticon
It made me realize that I would've been in trouble if it had fully flatted on the road.

I had been leery of those mushroom plugs, but it was pretty easy to use...much less cussing than previous instances with the rope type!

I have a Ryobi cordless, hand held air compressor with digital readout. It's about the size of a cordless drill. $20 at Home Depot. Battery and charger are a bit pricey at about $100, but you can also use the them for your other cordless Ryobi tools. I use my Ryobi compressor for airing up all my scoot and car tires and carry it with me in my top case whenever I go for a ride.

Two scooters, a big bike and a trike all have a Can of Flat Fix on them. The scooters have a small can and the Wing and Trike have a car size. Only needed it once in '78 and I was still two days out from home. Topped off the pressure each morning and took it pretty slow. Not recommended, but it worked.

Now if out for more than a day ride I also carry a Stop & Go kit and pump. I think I've made it 44 years since because of a lot of luck and I change out my tires around the 2/3 wear mark.

Food for thought: I've used my old portable air compressor (DC powered) for 14 years! And I've used my old booster pack for 2-3 years... BUT....

Lokithor sent me this thing to review in the fall (I'm slow). It's a two-in-one air compressor AND booster pack.

It's also on sale now for 35% off: https://amzn.to/3pztZRR

I'll admit... I'm PICKY AF. I'm not easily trusting of multi-purpose devices, and I'm not going to change a winning combination I've used for years until I'm sure I have something that will work.

Guys, that thing is the bomb. It's the real deal. Fantastic little device. I've jumped my 5.4 liter v8 with it, inflated my truck's winter tires with it. Charged my phone battery while camping.

When paired with one of plug/patch kits mentioned by others, it's a winning combination for space-saving your "precaution kit" on a motorcycle camping trip. I have no affiliation with these guys other than they sent me one for free to test, but I would strongly recommend it. It's a gem.

I'd just like to point out that the sidewalls on tubeless tires are stiff enough to be run on when punctured.

As opposed to having tubular tires that when punctured will have you running on the rim.

Then you're fcked

Here is what I carry for emergencies. It's light, easy to use, and basically indestructible.

I also have a ryobi cordless that is not expensive but the charger and battery can be but I have a ryobi cordless drill that came with a charger and two batteries so I am set very cheaply as it is the same battery, use it to fill car tires, Vespa tires, bike tires, Gotrax tires and my carrier tires so very versatile and as said about the size of a cordless drill. Now I do have to say I usually don't bring it along when I go riding.......but perhaps I should

I bought 3 of the smaller motorcycle tire pumps and they all broke. The last time mine broke,
I went to Harbor Freight and paid about $40 for a small yellow one that will always work. Its built way better that most of the smaller MC ones out there. It's a little bigger than I would like, but it will always work, and it fits under the seat of my BV350. I also carry two CO2 canisters in my tire repair kit that came with it, for when my battery is dead at the same time my tire is flat. I also have AMA roadside assistance, but don't recommend it. AAA for roadside assistance is far superior. AMA does not have a national network of people to call on like AAA has. It's worth spending a little more to have AAA roadside assistance in the USA to avoid long waits to get service, especially when you are away from home all alone.

I never carried anything to repair or re-inflate a tire until recently.

I changed because I have had some tire issues lately.

The first was running over a nail near home.

I heard the nail hitting the road and came to a stop.

I pulled the nail out and found that it went through and was leaking, luckily slowly.

Home was just three blocks away so I quickly rode home and swapped scooters.

Then, several months later, I was leaving Everybody's Restaurant, 20 miles from home when I felt a wobble from the rear.

I pulled over to find the air had left the tire.

A gas station was near so I rode slowly on the flat rear, as the sidewalls are so stiff on the Michelin Power Pure that you can ride with no air.

It cost $1.25 to put air in the tire, but the hole was too big and it all ran out quickly.

I went inside to find that the sticky string repair kits were all sold out, so I rode slowly to a Dollar General, where they only had Fix-A-Flat, and in desperation, bought a can.

Followed the instructions to the letter, and it still leaked with air flowing out.

Then tried an automobile repair shop with no luck, except a bicyclist pushed his bike in to get air.

His tubed tire was not repairable, but we struck up a conversation.

He had sticky string and a repair kit at his trailer two blocks away.

We went there and he plugged the tire.

I went back to the auto place and filled it with air and rode home without incident.

I went to AutoZone after this and got a tire repair kit.

Later that week a friend and I rode our Yamaha Xmaxes to Barberville, 100 miles south of Jacksonville.

Leaving a restaurant in Astor, I noticed his rear tire was low.

We rode to a gas station just a half mile away and filled the tire with air to find a small leak.

I whipped out the tire repair kit, that I just put under the seat right before leaving, and plugged the tire in a couple of minutes.

We filled it up and rode the remainder of the ride without incident.

I also have a Bauer battery pump, a little bigger than the size of an electric drill.

On a big ride to Mississippi recently, I decided to take Vanessa, a 2007 Vespa GT that had a slow rear tire leak, 2 lb/day, as it was running smoother than the others.

So I took the pump and refilled the tire every morning before heading out.

It is very rewarding to be able to repair problems on the road.
