I found this video on parking and safely getting on and off your motorcycle. While not all of it will apply to conventional scooters, I still think it has value to those of you who have Maxi scooters or geared motorcycles. I wish I had this information fifteen years ago when I had a BMW R100/7. Since I'm relatively short at 5'7", I always had problems getting on and off that bike. Hopefully you'll find some value in this video if you should be so inclined to watch it.

Mopedlar,

Thanks for the post. Good stuff. Unfortunately, many of us have learned by
mistake. On my no shift maxi-scooter, I apply the hand brake so the machine
will not move when I put down the side stand to dismount.

Also, I am fortunate to be able to be flat footed when in the saddle stopped with
both the Vespa an Kymco. The next hazard is being on an incline or sand on
the surface of the asphalt or cement parking area.

Good video and well done. On the other hand, if you have a CVT scooter with no parking brake, no side stand, and no footpegs............

It was good basic stuff. The one thing he didn't cover in the video was turning the front wheel to change the lean angle when on the side stand. Perhaps he'll cover that in another episode, the link above is for episode 1.

Five years ago I fractured the distal end of the right fibula. Out of commission for the Harley I practiced in the garage for about fifteen minutes swinging the right leg with the walking boot over the floor of my Vespa, then hopping on the left foot to step on the centerstand with the left foot and pop up the scoot.

I used the rear brake to hold the bike, then straightening the bars, and releasing the brake as I stepped on the stand.

Totally different than any way I've ever parked a bike before but it worked very well. After three months I actually had to remind myself not to hop around the scoot.

No parking brake, no sidetand, no footpegs, shit no right foot either. It can be done.

Ryan from Fort Nine did a great video on mounting and dismounting a motorcycle like a pro. I like when he walked up the front of a huge dirt bike. Sorry I suck at links.
