Hypothetical:

if an NGK CR7EKB was installed into an HPE yet the manual says an NGK MR7BI-8 what effect do you think this would have? eg would it idle higher/lower or less stable or etc.

A friend went to a auto parts store and they sold him a wrong plug. It hit the piston and a piece of trash bent a valve. Why would someone even run a wrong plug in the first place. Reach and heat range are very important.

I doubt you will notice any difference at all.

Dimensionally they are the same so no need to have histrionics about crashing valves.

theoretically, nothing. ostensibly both plugs are built within the same parameters with just some difference in the business end but that shouldn't effect anything at that level.

so, let's break it down.

C= 10X1mm thread 5/8 hex
R= resistor
7= heat range (bigger the # the colder the plug)
E= reach (length of threaded bit)
the last two letters indicate the electrode/sparky part
B= special construction K= multi ground I= iridium tipped electrode

the BI is iridium, but non projection with a platinum ground (although I'm not sure why they list it with a M designation as a compact plug when the specs for it are the same construction wise)

the KB has two ground straps that are nickel, standard nickel electrode but is projection

the iridium may last a little longer

I prefer a standard projection tip in the 8 range, but people love and swear by the iridiums

It's been like this for 10,000km or so and I only jsut noticed as I was going to replace it when doing a valve adjust soon to hopefully fix my high idle issue (which has recently gone from a bit moody to bad)

the spark plug is unlikely to cause a high idle issue.

more than likely you've got another problem.

because of your riding conditions I'd almost suspect some foreign matter binding up your controls or cables. or at least that's where I'd start. have a look see, CLA, ride & report. if that doesn't fix it, then onto the next item on the menu.

didn't think the plug, just ticking things off my list to check

do you mean like the throttle cable? interesting thought will have a poke around today.

what is CLA?


since the valves have never been chcked in 28,000km I am suspect but if that's doesn't help I'll probably start a new thread.

Hmm, here Iridiums cost 3x what normal sparkeys do.
Still, if changes are 20 000km who cares the cost but I bet normal NGK CR8EKB would do those kms ok. Dunno what they did put in factory 2024...
but that will be seen, when I change the plug, as purchased a CR8EKB, 9,9e. and not the 30 euros iridium...
