old belt not used much in 14 years

Hi there, new here.
I just got a lovely little LX 125 and i am curious, does the rubber drive belt decay over time? i could be wrong but it feels like it's slipping on take off sometimes... cheers

yes, rubber does deteriorate over time. I'd replace it and while you're in there go ahead and inspect, lube and adjust all the other bits and pieces of the drive assembly.

Hi, and welcome. Yes, rubber degrades over time. Just like your tyres and rubber hoses, they have a finite life span. At 14 years old your belt will have become brittle and probably developed cracks. I would definitely have it replaced and also do the same with your tyres depending on how old they are.
