You are allowed to carry a passenger, but they aren't allowed to do anything in terms of operating the scooter or keeping track of your time, or taking the photos. If you're riding like cannonballers are meant to, you basically end up with a large duffelbag behind you that keeps screaming at you to slow down.

Thanks for the replies. Approaching 60 and like many the Cannonball is intriguing but the idea of getting my as# handed to me for 10 days straight is not but maybe riding every 3rd day would be doable. The real appeal is with the finding a barn find scoot bringing up to transcon spec, keeping it going for the duration of the race and helping others do the same. The competitive race times doesn't even register with me. Maybe in the future there will be a "teams" style grouping so people can share the load.

I'm just 3 years behind you and riding for 15 hours isn't really an issue.
Just tell your body that's what it's going to do and you do it.

I am very much in. I have an alert set on my phone for 8:55AM on 6/25.
Until I have confirmation of my registration, I'll treat it like trying to get the most difficult concert tickets of the summer.

I realize there is an official support vehicle process.. this is more of a 'hey, we live one town over from the starting line and have a truck.' That's about as far as we've gotten this early, but as things get buttoned up we can see about offering options to haul gear. Even if it's just hotel to hotel. |

There will be an "official" support truck that you can buy into that will haul stuff from the start line to the finish line with stops at the official hotels every night. But that doesn't solve the logistics of getting your stuff (tools/parts/tires/clothes) to the start line and home from the finish line. A "privateer" effort can save some hassle, but requires other commitments for vehicles and drivers. Start planning early.... |

Rounded up to the nearest $5, these were my rider participation costs for 2021. $370 - Fuel $2,030 - Hotels (14 Nights, Single Occupancy) $720 - Meals (14 Days) $50 - Parks & Tolls $200 - Support Truck $340 - Tires (Purchase, Mounting, Balancing, etc) $440 - Spare Parts, Consumables (Oil, Filters, Belts, etc) $1,370 - Shipping Scooter California to Pennsylvania $350 - Airfare California to Pennsylvania) Total = $5,870 I had additional expenses that were splurges but they made it into the final spreadsheet (nosey accounting software). $270 - Scooter Mods + Touratech Mount $460 - Tech Upgrades + SPOT Tracker + New Camera $90 - $280 - Riding Gear Upgrades + PIN Lock + Gloves Total = $1,100 --- The $3-5k number seems to be consistent over the years but times are changing. Kinda like any good far off vacation, there are some expenses in the months leading up that we forget about. So think of the $3-5k as the final damage. For 2023, 8 Day Event, 10 Days of travel, as a baseline... Scooter Fuel - $300 Hotels (10 Nights) - $1500 Meals (10 Days) - $500 Shipping Scooter (One Way) - $1500 Total = $3800, that leaves $1200 in Scooter/flex budget... Sharing a room with roommate or shipping circumstances can help that number. If you are within a days ride of the start or finish line, have riding gear and a scooter generally ready for touring, and your goal is to finish, you should be able to affordably participate. |

Our team: Not Fast Just Curious was a full service support team picking up riders and broken scooter and able to carry both rider and says poteen go the end if necessary. 2023 will be more or less a rsprise of 2012 and no mandatory dirt. The following cannonball will return to "more varied terrain" of the last couple years. Last cannonball there was an agreement with Motoshippers that provided pick up service for broken scooter to return them to their owners. That those who didn't have full support had an option available. Word I'd the same service along with special pricing for shipping to and/or from start/finish for cannonball participants. Vintage have not only finished but finished well. 2010 and earlier had vintage class but 2012 switched to the current handicap system. 2012 was woman a highly modified 1946 Salisbury. Second place was a 1960 Allstate (Vespa), seventh a 1975 Vespa Rally and eight was 1977 P-200. In 2014, 1986 Honda Helix placed fifth and 1971 Vespa Rally placed seventh. 2016, 1974 Vespa Rally finished fourth. There is no official start time. There is a group photo, I think it's around 6 AM, and then people take off when they want to.

Not a requirement, but really inevitable are the various tech gear components:
Spot Tracker (this made my wife much more comfortable with the whole idea) Helmet Camera helmet com system even if only to really be able to hear your GPS GPS, mount, and power system Full Data cellphone Full Data backup cellphone on a different carrier charging system to be able to charge all of this stuff overnight at the hotel Extra gasoline carrying system - even if you don't go crazy and plumb it in Technical base layer for the weather expected (I had all kinds of cold weather gear, but needed a few things to be ready for ultra hot weather.) And well, maybe, some extra money for speeding tickets. |

Regarding the starting and finish line festivities. Here is some basic info 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run which will be updated in the future, but there will be a full-day event on Saturday, June 17th in San Clemente. It will be held at a local brewery with plenty of parking lot space and will be open to the universe. The event has added some basic tech inspections at the starting line check-in that will take place on this day/location. The intent here is not to rip bikes apart but to ensure we have accurate/clean rider and scooter data in the system at the event's start.

Max6200 wrote: Please define team riding to me. Teams as used in the current cannonball are for support not shared riding. For example Not Fast Just Furious in 2021 consisted of 4 riders, 1 driver and 1 dog. The driver drove an F-150 pulling a motorcycle trailer. Gear and luggage the riders didn't need on the road were in bins in the truck and made available at the e end of the day. If a rider has a mechanical problem their scoot was put on the trailer and they had a seat in the truck until either the scooter was again roadworthy or the finish line was reached. |
