Left the house, used the remote to open the seat, all was good.

Got to the store, went to open it again with the remote, starts making a grinding sound coming out near the battery compartment. Had to open it manually.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Tom

On the GTS, if you have something under the seat applying upward pressure (e.g. the bucket is totally full), the latch won't electronically open. You have to press on the back of the seat, where a passenger would sit, while you press the unlock button. This counteracts the pressure, and gives the latch space to open.

On my Supertech I took up a habit of punching the rear of the seat when I close it so as to make it lock consistently and open consistently. (Never had to do this with my old GTS)

Did you put your helmet in the pet carrier while you were in the store? Is your helmet something of a tight fit in there?

The thing is, nothing is in the seat compartment.

I just pushed down on the back of the seat, still no joy. Pressing the electronic button causes a grinding sound. Almost like a car with a dead battery.

Called my Vespa dealer, spoke with their Service guy, he said "I have NEVER heard of that." So in it will go I guess. Thing is like, 4 days old. Not good.

New != Tested...

You become the test pilot of any new vehicle. I bet it's either just the latch position that needs adjusting or an actuating cable has come adrift.

I just walked to my garage to look at my sprint 150. I usually forget to use the key fob button. But either way you hear a mechanical whine coming from near the battery compartment pulling the cable that releases the latch. I'd look for ways to get at that cable if you weren't headed to the dealer with a brand new scooter.

What do you mean when you say you had to open it manually?

Open it manually with the lever inside the little storage compartment, as opposed to anything electrical, like the button or the remote key fob.

If I was in your position I would take it back to the dealer you bought it from and ask them to fix it . I assume that you have a warranty to cover any problems .

Mine does that as well. Somebody put some pieces of weather strip in the channel that the seat cushion seats into when the pet carrier is closed. Why they did that is beyond me. The only time it would rattle would be when the bike is running, and with my generous derrière planted on the seat, I doubt it is going to rattle anyway.
