so this is actually scooter related, just a different type of scooter. In addition to my Vespa I have a two wheeled electric scooter called a Gotrax. For those unfamiliar with that you may have seen the same type of scooter in the cities under the name of Bird or Lime that are two wheeled scooters that people can rent to ride around in, they actually have become very popular, just like electric bikes, I just happened to buy one. It is a lot of fun, will go 15.5 MPH, but the battery does not last more than 15 or so miles which is an issue. I looked around for some sort of auxiliary battery that I could carry with for extra battery power but one does not exist. I even reached out to the company that makes these but no luck. So someone in my tennis class said why can't you just make one. So I thought about it and it is not crazy, we have backup batteries for cellphones and other electronics why not this. The question is how to make it. So I know there is a lot of mechanical knowledge out in MV, so I am curious if any one thinks this can be done and if so any idea how? What info about the current battery would I need? I assume voltage and current etc. Any thoughts? Thanks for any info

Does the scooter work while plugged in? Can you ride it while it's charging (albeit not very far)?

regular 12v battery* + 12v/110v inverter and then connect as though charging ?

Yes not pretty but would probably work?

* could get for example a lithium motorcycle battery or regular sealed agm etc

No use, the original is 36V 5.4Ah Li-ion.

key word "inverter".

when plugging 110v into the charge point, the battery type & size in the scoot doesn't matter.

PS I assuming that the scoot normally is charged dircetly from mains without having a separate plug pack of some sort

You could buy 5 of these https://www.ebay.com/p/2211781056?iid=173835103089 and put them in series (or similar) - it'd double your range. Put them in some sort of tube and strap it to the steering column. Put a switch between this and the original battery wired so you can both run on either and charge either, but not both together in parallel, as they won't be exactly the same specs.

that makes a lot of sense, but if i got a similar battery to what I have and did the same attachment would that not work?

You want something like this, there's a harness there and a switch to choose what battery to use. Probably better than running wired in parallel. Check your battery specs for voltage.

I guess you'll want dual chargers too for convenience.
