Hi, I'm looking for some type of video editing software, preferably free and easy to use, to convert my video's from my Drift camera, and put them on YouTube. I've tried a few in the past, such as the open source software openshot, but I find it, and many others too complex and crammed with too many options - I just want a simple editing software, than can trim, fade, and add background music, with the ability to add titles...
Anybody out there use such a program??

Cheers!
Graham

I find Shotcut pretty straightforward. It's also all open source and free.

iMovie is very easy if you have a Mac. My kids say Blender, a free download for PC & Mac, is the way to go but I haven't used it yet. https://www.blender.org/download/

Check out this link, https://www.youtube.com/user/QueenDevilDog/videos , if you want to see what iMovie and a little practice can do,

For the basics, stick with iMovie if you're on a Mac.

For MS PC- Windows Movie Maker is probably the easiest but no longer supported. You can still find it, but Windows 10 Video Editor is an OK choice.

I recently read that Windows' Movie Maker would be coming back, in an unnamed update. If you are a Windows user on Win 11.

The new Windows movie maker is awful, just awful - buggy, and video's lag quite a lot! I just need a simple video editor that can add audio tracks, fade in and out, and be able to trim video, nothing too complicated for a PC user running Windows 11!

Cheers

Not free, but easy to use, I use Filmora X. One time cost.

When I started making videos for my YouTube channel I wanted the same as you -- free and easy. Since I work on an iMac I just started using iMovie. Free. But not necessarily easy. And downright frustrating in regard to titles that don't fit the pre-built ones and audio control wasn't what I wanted. Eventually.

I bit the bullet and got Final Cut Pro X. iMovie on steroids. Not intuitive and full of features. But after some training videos on YouTube, many notes, and paying attention, I can edit for faster and with less frustration on FCPX than I ever could with iMovie.

Video is often not as simple as it appears. I used to be able to shoot and edit on my phone but not anymore. My "needs" crept up on me...

If you are on Windows, have you looked at portableapps.com? They have several listed, installation is extracting to a directory of your choice.

video editing by its nature is a bit difficult to simplify.

as was previously mentioned, imovie is set up to be easy. It feels like if you can get the video on to your phone, editing apps for phones will be simpler to use.

having looked at one of the more resent blender versions - i wouldn't put that in the simple category. blender started as a 3d app, adding video later. wouldn't be the first tool id look for to edit video.

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve free version does 97% of what most people need. (runs on mac, win, linux)

Its set up to be full featured professional tool so also might not be simplest to get into. But there are a lot of tutorials on youtube and on their website. You can also ignore the tools you dont need.

I moved on from iMovie to DaVinci Resolve. I'm still heading up the learning curve, but I find it to be pretty amazing. Especially the free version. The color correction is fabulous. Cmatts is right, there are a ton of tutorials on youtube. My goal is to really get into it this winter, when I don't ride. Right now I'm just trying to get as much footage "in the can" as i can before then.

I always wanted Final Cut, but not now. Resolve is very cool. And IT"S FREE!!!

I just downloaded it and the menus are unreadable on my 12.3" laptop screen. ie, uesless without a magnifying glass. Sadly the software industry has gone to the dogs which is why I can't professionally continue in it without destroying my mental health further

Well that sucks! But it's good to know this. I have the luxury of a 27" 5K iMac and Resolve looks fabulous on it.

The original post was for an easy editor. No way it's easy to read on your laptop. It surely needs a bigger screen.

For those new to video editing, if you've done any audio editing you have a good start on video production. Both are basically linear processes.

But, if you've already used iMovie or (God forbid) Windows Movie Maker the editing concepts carry over to Resolve and so many other editors.

I've got a 28" 4K monitor on my home workstation, I'm just being grumpy here in the cafe in the morning while surfing this forum.

Discovered this month Movavi. I think it's one of the easiest and, in the same time, professional software on the market from all that I tried. I like its automated features like transitions, color correction, and background removal - all work smoothly. I use it primarily for my moto pages, editing reels and tiktoks with it.

For those who are still searching, I'd recommend reading this article: https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/combine-videos-windows-10.html There are more details about its features + other alternatives to use.
