I agree. Some people are just not cut out for riding a two wheeler. I personally know two people who have no business riding a scooter. They've had multiple accidents and incidents. I don't feel safe riding with either of them.

It's good to know I can save a lot of money by skipping those off-road riding classes and instead can just let it rip on a dualsport. I'm either cut out for it or I ain't, right? Practice, education, and skills development don't mean anything.

I would never have figured out that the trick to the slow-speed tight-turn figure eight thing is to shift your butt if no one had told me.

Here's another one. Take the class! It's not just about passing the test it's learning everything about riding safely with traffic and other motorcycles. They will show you the formations for riding in groups and what to watch out for on the road.

I had a friend that didn't take the course. He ended up in an accident that shattered his pelvis and now walks like a pirate with a straight leg.

+1 on taking the MC Safety Course. Automatic license after passing. Just get it booked and done and save on headaches of the DMV an hour away.

Completed the MSF course last weekend and yes, it was very enjoyable. Spent two days vrooming around cones on a Kawasaki Z125. I chose this for the 12" wheels which is most common on a lot of scooters.

First day of riding was in the rain! Great practice for those unexpected rainy rides.

Went for a twisty ride yesterday to reinforce the concepts of S.P.A.T and A3. Riding has become more fun for sure, but I noticed I have so much more situational awareness now.

BTW, the Lollipop was much easier feathering a clutch and using the rear foot brake for me.

Does the tension, the stress make you underperform?

Exactly. So the advice to Caliscooterguy is to practice and do more difficult exercices than the ones you will get on the test.

I am curious as to the scenarios you envisioned where it matters a lot if someone can knit.

or, hear me out, what if the predator is chasing you and, you're like, just totally out of bullets but there's like, all this yarn and man, it's just like, everywhere so what if you could like, totally knit a trap for the predator? that'd be pretty important, right?

I mean, these are just but two examples where knitting would matter a lot.

You're snowed in in a New England blizzard. Power's out again. You've only got so much firewood for the wood stove, but there's a flock ton of woolly yarn and knitting a sweater, scarf, & socks would go a long way to making sure the woodpile won't run out.

Was down and out for awhile work place "accident". Being broken again messed with my head. I took the MSF course after decades of riding. I was glad I did. I served as the "bad habit" example. I was also the oldest by far in the class, had a couple years on the instructor. Upon graduating you get a form "CHP approved motorcycle training endorsement" to take to the Ca DMV. Still got the form as I already had my M1 endorsement. Many insurance companies give a "discount" on your policy if you're "CHP endorsed".

Also check the "providers/trainers" location. Two in my area one at a local Junior College and the other at an old air strip had the painted course, no cones or objects (road debris) open to anyone as long as the gate was open.

It sounds logical to me to keep both hands at the steering bar. Not too difficult, I would say.

That's not exactly how the MSF instructor yelled it. It's just I was having so damn much fun on that little 125. It was a blast. Got me thinking about small displacement bikes and dare I say scooters. Oh, wait I'm on my second scooter. Damn that MSF course anyway.

In the advanced riding course, the instructors actually taught us to
weave between cones one handed. I do not think they recommended
riding with one handed. We just did it as a skill test.

as a former instructor myself , that was never part of the instruction material by MSF. that was some roge instructor deviating from course material.

There was a time when I could ride my bicycle all the way home from school (~2 miles, with plenty of turns) and never touch the handlebars. Long time ago...

The OP wants to get the M1 endorsement. Enough bad examples and a cliché. Do as I say, not as I do.
