Hey!

I am so psyched. Today I picked up my GTS 300. My first ride was from Brooklyn - through Manhattan and up to where I live in Rockland County. A few times today, only when sitting in traffic for a bit, I noticed the engine would race for a minute or two - it would stop …… but I was wondering if this is normal. Each time it happened it was when I was sitting still for a bit……..would race, then chill out……didn't affect performance or anything……Rides like a champ. No problems. Is this normal??

I am not even sure if racing is the right word…….just sounded a bit different is all…..maybe that is just part of it. Like it was trying to cool down or something I dunno……

Actually, yes, absolutely. That is what it sounds like. I am laughing to myself. So, I assume this is normal.

The fan can sound like a racing engine, it's normal for the fan to kick in and out whilst the engine is idling in warm temperatures. Enjoy your new ride!

I've had mind for two and a half years. I can probably count on one hand the number of times the fan has come on.

The first time it happened, I definitely thought "It's supposed to do that, right?"

I agree that the cooling fan coming on can be an unusual sound if you don't realize what it is. But, about the cooling fan coming on while riding in upstate New York in March? I would not expect that.

it came on twice while I was out. Yesterday was pretty warm. 70 or so. Both times it happened I was just sitting at a standstill in bumper to bumper traffic in NYC........

Today was around 50 and I did about 30 miles or so......no fan.

I often wonder (enviously) when someone says they've had their bike for years and never heard the fan come on! Most of my riding is in Toronto traffic and it's a good day when I don't hear the fan! Crying or Very sad emoticon Razz emoticon

I've only heard the fan on my GT 200 go on in the middle of summer while I'm stuck in traffic.

The fan on my 460cc Beo kicks on regularly in traffic, even in winter. Totally normal, as the temp gauge needle drifts just above the mid-level. I suspect many of the cooling system components for the smaller Piaggio engines are designed "down" or outright borrowed from the larger engines, rather than the other way around, so the 200cc-range have plenty of passive thermal radiation capacity and the fans rarely need to kick on.
