Modern Vespa

I did the first 600 mile oil change on my 300 Super HPE this morning and it couldn't have gone any smoother. I had to do it on its center stand because my better half was occupied with work. Put down a lot of cardboard and used a "Form a Funnel" to direct the oil flow from the drain hole and filter to my drain pain. Worked beautifully! Then to add the oil, I used a right angle funnel from Lisle which I bought from Amazon for $13. No mods needed to it. Worked like a charm to fill the oil. The funnel spout doesn't exactly fit perfectly into the fill hole, so you just have to hold it with one hand and pour with the other. Didn't lose a drop of oil. The job is done and the only fluid on my garage floor is some blood from a cut I got on the muffler shield. The edge of that shield is razor sharp! Thanks everyone for your help, especially the gentleman who suggested using the form a funnel! This forum is awesome!

As an aside, shouldn't services be done by a registered mechanic/dealer during the warranty period so if you need to make a claim you have a receipt?

That's a good question. I probably should have considered that before i did it. I don't believe I have to let them do the service, but I could be wrong. I think as long as I have receipts for the proper oil and filter, I'm ok. Hopefully, someone who knows better will chime in.

No. Save your receipts for the oil and the oil filter, as well as for the oil drain o-ring, the gear oil for the rear hub and the rear hub drain crush washer. Doing this yourself will not have a negative effect on your warranty.

Thank you very much! It worked much better than it did last week when I tried using it with my GT 200.

At least with a Motul Scooter Power oil bottle, I can get the nozzle from the bottle to pour directly into the engine without a funnel if I've taken the muffler off.
