I just bought this protection bars from SIP and after 1 week I see the horrible consequences of this absurd design
The tubes are fitted inside a lower horizontal tube that happens to be thicker than the lateral tubes. It is kept inside by friction but is is far from being water tight.
In addition there is no design hole for the water to drain so… water just seats and the rust party begins

I had to figure out a workaround for this but this is just nuts!

Also the bar end on both sides hits your legs while you are standing on your legs and moving your vespa around to park

Very poor design. You could try applying clear silicone sealant between the joints, but you would then need to reapply it every time you remove them. Drilling small drain holes on the underside of the tubes may help along with spraying rust prevention inside them. They are going to be high maintenance to keep rust free.

I just made some poastic caps with enough clearance to insert the bars. Now it is pretty tight

Before that I used a wire and some paper to clean it inside… boy was it nasty. Look at the goo it spitted from inside

Then I sprayed wd40 inside and repeated the cleaning

Spray this inside the tubes, and you should be okay:

A bit of this will go a long way.
