Advice needed.
I have a 2009 fly 150 with just under 7k on it. I recently did the 190 malossi big bore kit I also have the malossi sport exhaust Kevlar belt ,and rollers. After the big bore i had a shop tune it and change the jets as needed. It ran great for the first ride about 3 hours. Never pulling full throttle. Then to work the next day a 45 min ride but when I was about to go home after work it gave me a bunch of shit starting then started making a clunking noise that sounds like itÂ's from the transmission area. It seemed to smooth out on acceleration but it also now makes a scraping noise before engaging only when I pull out I even feel a slight jolt when it engages. I rode home and babied it but it didnÂ't seem to lose any power although I didnÂ't get on it in fear of braking more. So does this mean new variator? New clutch? I plan to make these upgrades anyway but do I need them now? Also are the dr.pulleys a better choice then malossi rollers? Thanks in advance!

How old is the belt? If it's the original belt, it might be coming apart.

So I should have specified I did the belt and rollers last season with a buddy of mine who's a great mechanic and did the big bore kit last week or so then the tune was done at a reputable shop I asked them the same questions they were taking a while to reply so I was looking for a few different perspectives. I'll take the cover off ASAP and see what's up

When you say "the shop did the tune" what do you mean?

What did they do?

As the Greasemeister said, you are going to find something was done incorrectly. Either they left out the washer between the bushing and the outer shaft, or they didn't tighten down the clutch or variator when they put it back together. Is the clutch nut still on?

I don't think they touched the driveline from the report of OP.

if they did that's on them.

either way, that's gotta come apart. I want pictures. I want carnage. I demand satisfaction!

So it seems to me after taking the cover off that the backing plate on the clutch is rattling like an sob could this be the source of all the noise? Under acceleration the noise smooths out and gos away. Could that be when the clutch engages? Is a new clutch the answer?

the back plates on clutches are known to get loose and rattle.

I'm more interested in the whole: was difficult to start, making a scraping noise, a jolt and clunking noise.

a loose backplate will jingle and jangle at idle but doesn't produce and of those symptoms. it's more annoying than anything but doesn't represent an immediate danger or cause anything like that-- unless it was messed with.
