Hello all,

I've recently acquired a 1970 GS150 super, at least I think it is. It's never been on the road (well it's got a genuine 7 miles on the clock) and has been in the reception of an Italian restaurant since new. It's in as good condition as you could hope a factory state Vespa of that age to be. Not a single scratch, in fact the mirrors still haven't been unwrapped from the bags they came in. It's registered on Italian plates so I've just contacted the dvla to get it registered but there isn't any paperwork with it except the receipt for the purchase from new. I'm not even sure it is a super. It has the split seat on so the rear is separate from the back. If anyone could help me firstly tell me for sure what model it is and secondly give me a value so I can insure it for its proper value. I'm certain it's of a high value but would appreciate some guidance. Thanks for your time in reading this and if you have any advice to offer thanks again.

Jim.

Ok… had to take a breath there…

It looks like a super.

GS scooters were long gone by 1970.

Would be very strange to have black leg-shield trim over original paint, but I'd guess it's possible.
Also…the Vespa script badge looks off to my eyes.

Anyway, If it otherwise unfucked and original could be worth 2k or so maybe a bit more.

If it's a mish mash of parts, filler, and respray could be worth 1k.

Check your serial numbers on scoothelp and post some more pics.

And welcome!

Who wants to be first to use the b word?

Welcome Jim. As Birdsnest said, chances of it being a 1970 GS are zero. Trapezoidal headlight and chrome fender protector suggests a Super of Indonesian origins.

Frame and engine numbers will tell more.

You're in luck. Very similar Vespas have been posted up for sale for close to $30,000. Bring A Trailer will definitely be your (only?) friend here.

"1970 Vespa 150 Spring with just 101 Original miles! This wonderful Vespa was owned by the owner of the Vespa dealership who purchased it new and ordered it with a factory race engine claimed by the former owner to produce an astounding 17HP. It was used just 101 miles the first year of its life and then sat in his office until we recently acquired it."

Hey Jim! Welcome to MV!

Could post some more pictures? Both sides, back, engine, etc? That will help in identifying what you've got.

Odds are, it's from Vietnam, Indonesia or India. Was restored there and imported sometime in the 2010s.

What does the original paperwork look like?

Do you have more photos? You can tell a lot from detail.

And the VIN.

This will tell you the model and date of manufacture, if the numbers are original.

ain't much original about that piece.

This.

I think I, like the others who have chimed in, already know the answer, but more pictures will confirm or refute.

Welcome Jim. Sorry to say that there is nothing 'factory state' about your Vespa. Those genuine 7miles on the clock are more like 70'000. Your vespa has many of typical signs of a South East Asia Restoration, or BODGE; as we say around these parts. Shiny paint, aftermarket parts; all which is likely hiding an encyclopedia of repairs, welds, and fixes underneath. There is no model "GS150 Super". It looks like a 'Super', but hard to say based on one photo. Its def not original, but lets see the VIN numbers and go from there. Check the VIN on Scooterhelp.com

Yeah that looks pretty bad.

Nothing original about it, if the mirrors are wrapped up, it's probably because they were wrapped up from a factory not long ago…

Hope no one paid a pretty penny for it.

But if it's in the UK, good luck getting it on the road

Y'all mean SOB'S ran another one away. Like the others that you've seem to scare, point out small things that don't matter, pick over a rare vintage Italian machinery in which now the new collector thinks you're jealous of his purchase.

I would never ever do anything remotely like that. I'm embarrassed to be associated with people of your like.

Come back dude and upload some more pics so the real people in the know can awe at that magnificent vespa. These other Bozos don't know greatness when they see it.

Sorry for the delay responding, I've been really busy at work.
Ok so firstly thank you for all the responses I've got and clearly there is a lot to find out about it. I'll have a read through all of the comments and post some pictures up of it later on. A little back story to my request for info on it is that basically I used to own a vespa back in the mod revival of the 80's and have missed being broken down at the road side so much I've wanted another one for years. it came up in auction and I was the only bidder. Kids and work meant I couldn't have one before but that's different now so I ended up getting this to fix up and use on rare occasion it's not freezing cold or pissing down with rain. Because it's from an auction you never know what you end up with so I'm very grateful for your help.

Just from that one picture, I'd say it's a 70's Sprint 150 from Java. It has a plate, so maybe not a Frankenscoot? If it was from Vietnam it'd have all these "hey look, I'm Italian" doo-dads all over it.

I imported one from Bali in the mid 90's. At that time there were many of those still buzzing around. Bought it from the original owner, a Balinese priest -- still have his original registration book. It was a rusty (white) but solid enough 30km daily rider of his, and I guess he was ready to go plastic like everyone else.

So I take it to my agent, and he says, "do you want a mechanic to fix it up?" Showed me a list in Indonesian. New cables, rubber things, speedo... I paid maybe 300 for the scoot and the repair things costed close to nothing. So why not?

The charming old scoot landed just like that picture. Same color!
