Hi bike broke down ..battery went flat..melted charging relay connecter and fuse dead...got daughter to bring car over to charge battery and think I attached + to - minus side DOH! Blown fuse number 4 or 5( yellow) checked with multimeter 11.7 v...bike starts but tilt lock light on and doesn't rev much ?

Have you ever checked for the hidden fuse /starter relay under the seat potty for melting as well. Lots of info on here just search for 'hidden fuse' .It's a wonder the bike starts with battery at 11.7v as it's as flat as a fart.

Yep the underseat one all melted for second time. Gonna see if it can be moved .when I figure out where the other short is

Do what i did and make a bigger flap out of rubber sheet to supplement the plastic sheild thats fixed to the underside of the seat potty and encase the relay in a plastic bag it's kept mine dirt free. Best of luck with finding short.

Can this bike be towed? Really expensive to be brought back in a van..it only about 5 miles away

In the UK, only another motorcycle can tow a motorcycle. I've done it several times (non-mechanical offspring) and it's fine if done smoothly with the towed rider applying just the teeniest bit of rear brake.

It's a trike, and a 3 wheel Reliant can be towed by a car, so maybe yes.

Would you realy want to argue that point if pc plod stopped you

Iv'e only been towed once before and that was down the E10 in Belgium ,got a tank slapper where there were road works and all traffic was going down one carriageway and dropped it right infront of two police officers .I think we were told off for towing but as the tower was german and i a brit it was all foreign to us. One wanted to arrest us i think the other dident so we were told to be on our way to ostend to catch the boat. So would i recommend a tow ,not realy especialy around northampton , i don't think with the amount of traffic and speeds i woulden't want to be towed in a car. Do you not have breakdown cover?

AXA breakdown recovery won't do it and refer me to a company in London who don't answer ..will stick with the main ones next time I renew insurance

I'd complain - this is really shoddy. You should get some money back.

Raise a complaint with AXA without delay as if your breakdown is with AXA then it's up to them to provide it and not to fob you off and making you do all the work. Compensation should be in the offering for the delay.

Yes tilt switch not working

till you get the tilt lock to turn off you won't be able to rev the engine over 2000 rpm

Pretty sure it has seat sensor bypass...so could the resistor have blown ..would this cause tilt lock problem? Or / and check wheel sensors?

Just 'pretty sure'? Check it! The 3kohm resistor (which is what it should be as a bypass for the seat sensor) won't blow. However, you should check neither end of it has shorted to the frame, which might upset the tilt-lock logic.

The most likely thing is that the connection to the resistor (or to the seat sensor if that's still in play) has come undone. Happens all the time when the seat's taken off and put back on again, which is necessary for many maintenance tasks.

You don't have to bypass seat sensor to unlock tilt lock.

On my 2009 Piaggio MP3 Sport 500 (Gilera Fuoco), I can double right-click the tilt lock, to unlock. Then the bike can rev over 2000 (no red tilt lock light).

IIRC if either of the seat sensor wires touches the frame, then even the switch won't work - stand ready to be corrected! If there is a bypass of some sort, and its connections are funky, this may be the problem.

Took seat off and had poke around still a short somewhere and taken off plastic around tank..guess next to take off around handbrake..check parking ECU

Tried with 3k ohm resistor still same

One tip, you can check short with the help of the fuse, to roughly narrow down the group of components.

Stripped down and took out parking control unit..think I may have found short but still no difference..will look at speed sensors next and top up tilt lock oil..otherwise try sell for £500
