Modern Vespa

Tried this on the rear. Only been for a quick spin down drive and on rough ground and feels natural, good, more stable, will report how it handles at speed on road.

There have been reports of quirky/dangerous handling from the Heidenau tires on the MP3 along with extremely short life.

I am currently using Metzeler on the rear, and seems ok handling wise although I don't think it is going to last nearly as long as the Michelin CityGrip

Yeah, I saw some very bad reviews and some neutral/good ones. Not necessarily all K66. Some swear by them, some swear at them.

One said it was a bit "upright" didn't want to turn, I didn't find that on my limited trial so far. Anyway it wasn't that expensive and I wanted to try a wider tyre 160/60 with more bite than my city grip and found this in right size reasonably priced.

My city grip is great on road, utterly useless on slightest bit of damp grass/dirt.

As it happened while I was thinking about it I found a nail in the middle of my newish tread city grip so I had to do something, had that repaired while I had the tyre swapped.

Will see how it goes. Can always swap back.

I saw someone tried Diablo 160/60, probably great on road but presumably same issue as soon as it gets a bit slippery.

I'm not planning to turn the bike into an off road machine but have a small field I want to be able to get round at modest pace without sliding everywhere. Also it rains a lot in the uk and a lot of the roads have poor surfaces.

Since you want a tire that has wet surface prowess, I think you'd be better served with a Metzeler Wintec.

That is what I am currently running, and I can vouch that it does have a significant edge in the wet stuff over the Michelin having run the Metzeler since last fall. The Metzeler is labeled as a M+S (Mud and Snow) tire.

It is a very economically priced tire, and can be used year round despite being tagged as a winter tire. See link

So today had it out on motorway up to 70mph, solo and with a pillion (I put the shock preload up to 2nd notch for just me and it worked fine for both me and me plus one).
Personal taste and I'm not anywhere near as experienced as others here but I liked it, felt solid, well balanced and stable and encouraged me to take corners more aggressively than before so I don't agree with the post I read that K66 was too upright.
It might be my feel or it might be in 160/60 it's different.
It felt like the same sort of improvement as going to 13" wheels felt.
This was first run with new variator weights and washer so it pulled much better and was generally more fun.
That might have been a factor and positive tyre impression my imagination I accept.
I'm way under qualified to report conclusively but speaking personally I didn't feel any adverse effects I had read about and I felt more confident on the bit of stray gravel on an airfield track and on less good road surface.
With the extra power from the variator mod I could make the rear slip on poor surfaces and I also tried deliberately locking it slightly on braking and in both cases it seemed more stable, seemed to keep going straight and instantly back in control when I released brake pressure/throttle whereas previously I felt the bike would quickly want to go sideways if I wasn't careful.
I'm now curious why they put a 140/70 tyre when 160/60 fits well and has more road contact surface.
If I notice unusual wear will report.
