My 3yo's imaginative play is expanding, and it's a lot of fun.
His latest is called 'Rescue Problem!' (his words) or more accurately 'emergency.' This involves a few of his toy cars getting into a wreck requiring swift response from the rescue team. The rescue team consists of a few heavily exaggerated, almost cartoonish, hotrod response Hot Wheels.
This morning I found myself sipping coffee and searching the interwebs for a few more realistic emergency vehicles to aid in the rescues. I was surprised by how limited the options were. Many of the best ones were 'vintage' and being sold on eBay. 'Oh well.' I thought. It's not like he was asking for new toys.
Late this afternoon, jr. and I were rolling back from Home Depo. As we turned onto our street I noticed our neighbors had put out a 'free' box. Leaning against it was a Hot Wheels car carrying case. After parking, we strolled down the block to check it out.
We exchanged pleasantries with the neighbor and she informed us that the case was full of cars. Bonus!
She wasn't kidding. The contents of the car case was a treasure trove of old Matchbox and Hot Wheels, some I remember from my childhood. Some over 40 years old.
And…
An abundance of rescue vehicles! Everything from unmarked Crown Victoria's to ladder trucks to ambulances.
'Rescue Problem' solved.
