Hello all...

Thailand based, a, trying to get some external information on a bike I have seen for sale, looks very clean, trying to get the chassis and engine numbers, but any input about it gratefully received.

Asked the seller what year this was and been told vaguely 1970 ish.. Whether this is actually genuine being told to me to make it look like this was made under license from Piaggio before they split in 1971 or not I dont know. I asked the model and all I am getting is is that its a Bajaj 150, no model name or anything.. am a little confused and trying to find any information is proving tricky!

What's the name of the shop you are buying it from? Is that the the "Scooter Square" LML shop just past the stadium? The outside of the shop kind of looks like it.

I live in Bangkok and could recommend a reliable shop that could sell you a decent Vespa (not a BACO) with a green book. Most likely a Sprint 150.

If you buy the BACO, you'll most likely be messing with it constantly to keep it running.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Its Suchart Vespa, he has been there for years, am sure you know it if you have been up there. I was originally after a veloce 150, am 90kg so need the extra guts. the price of some of these with green books its absolutely crazy, 300k+! Am currently out of the country so spoke to him via proxy so wasn't the easiest conversations! Plus my Thai isn't up to par...

But failing another other info on the bike then yea for sure always up for recommendations.

It's what the Thais commonly call a scooter made by the Bajaj Auto Company. The registration tag literally says BACO, whereas, a scooter made of Italian made parts imported from Italy back in the day and sold in Thailand has a registration tag that says VESPA. It's good because the BACOs usually are badged as Vespa like the one in the photo, so the registration, if legitimate says exactly what it is.

Yes, I know Suchart in Chiang Mai. I bought the GS160 I now have from them many years ago. It was in rough shape but they were pretty clear with what problems it had. It has a green book, so it was expensive. That was 15 years ago. It's now worth about three times what I bought it for after restoring it with many original parts. The prices have gone up dramatically. The shops here set a price and will refuse to negotiate because they know the following year the value will just increase. Their attitude is, "This is my price now. If you don't want it. Never mind. Move on."

I think you will be ok by them, but any BACO is bound to either have on-going niggling issues or will develop them. The engines and electrics just aren't of the same quality as the Vespa quality. I guess you want to buy here because you plan to return to Thailand. If you want to have Suchart ship a bike to you in your country, I'd not do that, but buy locally where you are.

For anyone wondering, the green book is essentially a registration book, or official title of ownership. Each time it's sold, a date stamp and new owner's name is put into the book. It looks just like a bank passbook. Having it pretty much triples the value of the bike.
