Probably going to sound like a really daft question.
I have a 2008 piaggio liberty 125, went to start it today and there is nothing happening, when I press the auto start it just makes a sound like doink doink.
Have checked battery, fuse, spark plug, all fuel levels good, and immobiliser goes off.
Am now at a loss of what to try next and ideas, or is this going to be a garage job?

How did you check the battery? "doink doink" sounds like it's dead.

My neighbour has a battery checker and was coming up just under 12v, so unless his checker is wrong, but it was a really old one mind you, i thought that would have been OK, so you think it might be battery related then?
The battery is the original so over 12 years old, all the lights still come on, but being a novice I have no idea what is right when it comes to stuff like this.

Depending on the type of battery tester it was, under 12 volts may not be enough. A 12 year old battery has its best years behind it. Time for a new one.

The sound you hear sounds like the starter relay. There's enough juice to pull the relay and light the lights, but not enough to for the starter to turn the engine over.

Engine off a battery ok provides 12.4 and 12.8 V, engine idling it rises well above 13 V.

That is correct. Rev the engine a bit and the voltage should go to 14 - 14,5V.
The most important to check the battery condition is to measure the battery voltage while starting. It should be above 10V.

OK, so new battery fitted yesterday, took it for a 20 mile run, go to start it tonight and nothing again, could this be something more than just the battery do you think?

It sounds like there's a drain on the battery overnight. Does your Liberty have a light under the seat that could be staying on if the seat isn't closed tight? That happens with my BV350. Do you have any accessories plugged in?

No light under seat, and nothing else plugged into it, it's an 08 plate so pretty old to be fair, only use it for work and back

Well put it this way not the battery, called up 5 different bike shops, can't get it sorted till early June, so no road time for me, they all think it could be the auto choke or starter motor
