Hey all,

Looking for recommendations for performance Cylinder kits to fit on a 3 port sprint engine. Considering the BGM, polini & pinasco kits.
Not really sold on the DR kits, but feel free to convince me otherwise.
Looking for best bang for the buck, with good reliability.

I am aware of the slippery slope when it comes to tuning and the associated costs. Prefer to be able to tweak incrementally (i.e. bigger carb, expansion chamber, gearing) but want to establish a good foundation with the best top end and crank now .

Any recommendations, as well as what to stay away from are much appreciated.

Thanks!
Guido

I'll kick off.
You might find other's who differ/ or agree.
Best bang for the buck/ steerable/ plug and play:
1. BGM
2. VMC

Best outright performance Malossi MHR.
Mallossi has aggressive cuts on their transfer ports - may not be plug and play.

I've run both 1 and 2.
Will absolutely put a smile on your face.

Personally - would steer clear of Polini and DR.
Polini - because its dated. Once the kind - but above listed are improved.
Also - aluminum cylinder with nicasil liner is the new tech (vs iron).
They are much tougher to seize - and ruin your day.
DR - similar - old tech, and poor tolerances - just no reason to go there - same money gets you 1 or 2 I think.

Pretty sure Ray8 and Gick have experience with the plug and play VMC model (Stevio?)
Both are fans.
BGM is the Trader Joes discount gourmet option (German made - reasonable cost).

My $.02 boil down.

Great info! I really appreciate you taking the time. Question about the Stelvio....did you run the stock 57mm crank or did you go with 60mm and shim the cylinder up? Got a any preferences on specific crankshafts?

Thanks again!

I ran the BGM with a 60mm crank.
No reason not to if you are replacing the crank in my view.
My VMC is the Crono.
Perhaps one of the Stelvio users can comment on their set up.

You didn't state big or small block. I'm assuming small. If so as mentioned BGM or VMC are going to the best bang/buck.

The best engine for this situation is a search engine. Most asked question ever with all the same answers.

I run a BGM 57mm touring crank with my VMC stelvio. Don't have many miles on it yet but good lord does it pull like a horse. Zero complaints on the power it puts out.

Vmc177
BGM 57mm crank
Pinasco 24.24ER carb

Mine was put together by Gickspeed, cases were welded and ports matched, carb matching to the case as well.
