Vespa Friends! I have a work trip to L.A from the UK and as a consequence I have some free days to spend in your beautiful part of the world- the 18th, 19th & 20th of May to be precise.

I'm delighted to say that I have my first child on the way too, and somehow this little trip feels like a special little moment in time before a big life change. I have this dream that I could ride out to the desert on a Vespa or something. It's a long shot I know, but could anyone help me make it happen? Are you all out there having fun non-stop? That's what it's like in my head

Might I suggest trailer the vespa out to the desert, THEN ride around. The beach will give you way more smiles for the miles tho, in every way.

I rode from LA to Santa Barbara on a Stella 18 years ago. That was fun! I had planned to camp, but sites were full, so I had to immediately return home to LA. Riding a vespa on Hwy 1 is an awesome experience. I soft-seized at one point but realized if I kept it at 55mph I could go without seizing. (Damn air leak).

Getting to the actual "desert", which in your mind would mean, I suppose, something like Mojave, would be insane.

Can't help you with a loaner scoot as I'm 3 hours south of LA. Probably only going to find rental twist and go's or motorcycles. No vintage Vespas. Nows your chance to be an American and try a Harley. Make sure to wear a bandana/ Cowboy hat for pictures for all the folks back home!

If you wanted to ride in the desert, you'll need to rent a car or a larger motorcycle! Its maybe 3 hours on the interstate from LA to Palm Springs. Google motorcycle/ scooter rental in Palm Springs and maybe something will come up. Palm Springs to Joshua Tree National Park and back is a good all day ride.

If that wont work, rent a Vespa and spend one day seeing the LA/ Hollywood sights and one day riding up Hwy 1. For LA you can see the film studios (Warner Bros, Fox, NBC/ Universal), Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Strip, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, La Brea Tarpits, buy one of the star maps and see the celebrity homes etc. Plenty to see by scoot and filtering is legal and tolerated so California drivers will work with you.

As far as Highway 1, start at the Santa Monica pier (end of Route 66) and keep the ocean to your left! Take that into the town of Oxnard and ride on Highway 33 up and back for some great curvy roads. OR, Take the back roads to the town of Solvang. Then reverse course back to LA will give you another long day.

sure you do!

I'll buy ya a beer or we can BS at the shop and exhaust the supply there.

like MJ said, a ride to the desert would be a *journey* man. a hustle down to the beach would still be most of a day affair.

If you're set on riding, a rental would be the jam.
