I am restoring a 2004 GT200L. It is coming together nicely. I am getting the head set / handlebar covers back on with all new switches. Everything works as it should except the kill switch. It does not kill the engine. Since I have not riden the GT a whole lot, I never used the kill switch before the tear apart. I always use the key switch to stop the engine.

I swapped out the old switch and it also does not kill the engine. There are two wires to the switch. I traced the blue wire to the CDI and there is no break in that wire. I am not sure if the reddish wire and if it is the ground. Looking at the manual, the diagram is a bit vague so I am hoping someone has some insight into the issue I am having and can help out. Thanks!

Have you tested the switch itself?

Yes. I did swap back the old switch also with no success.

yes but did you test both switches with a multimeter for continuity closed and an open when toggled?

I already did. The new one does not kill the engine either.

Check the switch with a continuity mode on your multi meter.

It was a nightmare but now it´s over! Laughing emoticon

Both wires from the swith were bridged (not accidentally). I suppose that the previous owner did so instead of buying a new switch. The actual stupid thing is that he kept both terminals plugged to the broken switch like it was stock.

Now the new killswitch works as expected! Thanks for your support in anycase!

In case it helps anyone who has installed the SIP speedo on the GT200, I had to remove my Fuse #1 in order to have the kill switch work! This is not explained in the SIP install manual. I did this after staring at the circuit diagram just absolutely stumped as to what the cause could be.

Attaching the fuse descriptions (#1 is furthest on the right) as well as a high res version of the wiring diagram I came across before.

Thank you Soooo much for this solution! I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong with the kill switch on my SIP speedometer equipped GT200! Who would have thought 💭 to pull the #1 fuse? I was skeptical that it would work, but lo and behold pulled the fuse… and I have a working kill switch again! Thank You 😊 [/img]

I am thrilled it helped you!!!

I can only imagine why SIP would have designed it that way. I just contacted them to let them know about this in case they weren't aware and to ask the reason, will reply back.
