I purchased a gts 300 last year with the intention of repairing the head gasket and moving it on, my mate who is a hydro dipper decided he wanted to hydro dip it in carbon, after welding all the seems up and rust treatment etch and filler primer we are prepping for paint and hydro dip,Will post pics as we go, here are a few pics of some parts already done.

The frame is going i today via an electric winch, we tried yesterday by hand but ended up with movement line on one side, so hopefully the winch wil stop that, the dam thing is heavy.lol

Wow that looks amazing. Want to tell us a bit more about carbon hydro dipping? Can you post pictures of the hydro dipper process?

We are going to do the frame in 3 parts so as not to stretch the film.!st dip was front end.
The scooter is rust treated then etch primed, then 2 coats of filler primer, next process is the back paint, and when it is touch dry it goes into the tank. the film is layed on top of the water to soften for around 2 mins, then an activator is sprayed onto the film so it expands, the scooter frame is then lowered carefully into the water and the film transfers on to the fresh paint. sound complicated but pretty simple really, the skill is in how its lowered so as not to cause ripples, which moves the film. ![]() ⚠️ Last edited by tige on UTC; edited 1 time

I've never seen someone do a whole bike before, and that is absolutely stunning. thank you for sharing that.
It looks a whole lot better than the CF print that Piaggio used for a while on some of their GTS trims. There are a lot of places that do hydro dipping here in the US. Hopefully you've inspired someone else to do the same thing, but a little different. If someone has an interest in Hydro Printing, but don't like carbon fiber, there are a lot of options. Here's some, but there are a lot more: https://www.hydrographicfilmsupplies.com/collections |

I am just wonder how tough this hydro dip is? I mean, will it take as much abuse as powder coating? Thanks for posting this, it's really going to be a sweet looking scoot once it's all assembled. Kudos

In your neck of the woods, it is used a lot to apply camo to bows, rifles, atvs, and other things associated with the Southern outdoor lifestyle. It holds up pretty well. I looked into it for a while, but when I spoke to the people who do it in South Carolina, nobody seemed to have the slightest idea what I was talking about.

Yes carbon is only one of the many films that are used, My mate who does the work has done many items from gaming consoles phone cases wheels a whole variety of things, The list is endless, And to answer the question about durability, It is as tough as any custom paintwork, The secret is in the prep and finish. these pics are just a basic insight. at some point in the near future more will be revealed incl the whole bike and the name and details of my mate, So any one in the uk who wishes to use his service will be able to do so.
