Odd one, noticed this....seems to have been done a while ago perhaps but any idea of that black part could be not tight enough? Felt tight enough to me and could not feel any play in it

It may be tight but not straight or correctly aligned. The wear is only in one corner of the cooling fan.

That is true - i hadn't spotted that.

I wasn't sure if the belt casing itself originally came with a gasket, which would make it stick out slightly further and avoid this touching the casing. I think the worst of what has happened has already happened, as in i don't think it is wearing any more. But i will put some paint on the fan and see if scrapes off and if it does will need to take it apart again and get the locking tool to re-align the fan.
