After visiting the factory and getting measured up

One custom Aero Bootlegger

Leather: front quarter horse hide from Horween Chicago
Lining: Harris tweed from a weaver I met last year and he sent it to the factory
Jacket: Hand made in Scotland at Aero by Morgan. The person who makes the jacket signs it.

Now just need to break it in.

Love it

These Jackets seem expensive but to put things into perspective. The reason I went to the factory was to get my 34 year old jacket re lined and a new zip on it.

Nice!

Does it include any modern protective gear, or is it a 'pure classic'?

With my leathers I wear an Knox armoured shirt.
I gave up buying Jackets with armour as they never really sat right.
I have so much ce1 elbow and shoulder pad you could shake a stick at them.

Actually if you wanted pockets for armour they would add it for you.

You can specify extra pockets inside or out, you can even specify the angle of the pocket.
Want storm cuffs no problem.

I specified no pockets on the inside, no storm cuffs, concealed studs on the collar (stops them flapping about at speed) and the angle front zip. I also asked for a British zipper, they come with the american

Harris Tweed.

The best quality you can get, worn by several members of The Royal Family, it'll last you a lifetime.

The only reason I went for the Harris is because I met the weaver in a pub when I was there on holiday last year, lovely lass, gave us demo on how it's woven. She used purple to reflect the heather and the black to represent the rocks at the back of her croft.

She was very accommodating when arranging to send the yarn to the factory. Got it at cost + £6 p&p

Can't wait to go back to the Outer Hebrides. Should be easier now lock down has ended and every body is heading abroad in the summer.

Now, if there was just some way to assure that the same size riding jacket would continue to fit for 34 years.

I have quite a bit of gear; mainly BMW or Klim suits. Seems the zippers are the first things to fail, especially with hard use. I've had 2" of ice on me after riding through a thunder cloud in Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado @ 13,000' & with the right gear, I didn't hesitate at all. My brother, OTOH, spends $30k on a bike & wears a hoodie and blue jeans when it's cold. Nothing beats good riding gear.

I've gotta get back into a fitness routine. This last month my belt has become more functional than decorative. The button on my riding jeans has become the opposite.

In the US, mens zipper tabs are on the right and women are on the left, so women would use their left hand to pull the zipper. I know in Germany, they are backwards. Not sure about the rest of Europe though.

Yip in the UK they are the opposite to America. Aero make there jackets to original specs hence American style zippers.

I just couldn't live with it so got it standardised. I couldn't even zip the thing up, the nice chap in the factory had to do it for me.

Very nice. I think many of us would pay for quality. I know my Brown
Leather Bomber Jacket will still be worn by someone long after I am
gone. It also was somewhat pricy.

I know it is private, but could you hint at the cost of that custom built jacket.
Obviously, you do not have to. Off the rack leather bomber jackets are
$300 - $500.

Again, super jacket.

All in about £800, the tweed was £50.

My old jacket is a highwayman, the new one is a bootlegger, my next one will be a board racer with offset collar and made from Vincenza horse hide ....... maybe in a few years!
