Did I just void my warranty by changing the oil myself?
There is no authorized service centre nearby and the hacks that do service scooters want $95 Canadian dollars per hour plus costs to do this. I did have fun doing my first oil change before 1000 km. I put some vinyl tubing on the end of a plastic funnel to access the oil reservoir. There's no oil filter on a 50 cc scooter. There is a tubular screen inside the drain. It had some metal filings on it so I cleaned them off with paint thinner and let it dry before reinstalling it.

I think as long as you document the oil change and keep receipts you should be alright.

You're in the USA - as long as you can prove the work was done, you're fine. Receipts for the parts is good enough.
According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act, which is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, it's illegal for manufacturers or dealers to void your warranty or deny you coverage because you performed the work yourself.

Thanks for the correction!
The Consumer Protection Acts in each province are the Canadian equivalent to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Quite! Kerosene (paraffin in UK) is the stuff to use for random oil or grease clean-ups.

If the part isn't meant to remain oily or greasy, use some Simple Green or other detergent to finally clean off the kerosene - not in the case of the oil strainer though.

Wouldn't it be amazing if when adding a scooter to your profile here on MV if there was a separate space for the brand, model and model year.

I can't speak to Manitoba, but industry standard in Ontario is like the USA: keep your receipts with dates on them as evidence of proper maintenance.

Little bonus tip though: There is no Piaggio Canada. Vespa dealers in Canada get their scooters from Piaggio USA. So if America's standard is that showing your receipts is sufficient, odds are that covers everything Piaggio USA touches, which would include your scoot.

Manufacturer warranties are with the manufacturer, not the dealer.

Hope this helps you feel a bit more protected. Ride safe.

Thank you kindly Adri!
I finally resorted to reading my warranty manual (duh):

Nice! What does the blurb underneath about invalidating say? Does the manual contradict itself?

No. Not contradicting itself.
Just continues to say Piaggio service SCHEDULE must be followed.....by whomever....or warranty would be voided.
