I recently started having issues commonly seen with a weak battery - flickering display backlight, struggling to start, etc, and figured it was just because it got so cold overnight. However when I started it in the driveway after charging all night, all power was lost and then it came back on a minute later with the display acting as though I had disconnected the battery. Temp switched back from F to C, and odometer from Miles to KM. By accident I discovered moving the positive cable and tightening it down in a new position made the problems go away.

Has anyone ever had to replace battery cables, and is it something only a mechanic should tackle? I did search to see if this topic had been covered before, so I'm sorry if I missed it.

As above - you don't need to replace the cable, just clean the connections.
