Just random things that I dwell on….

Anyone ever fit a Yamaha Blaster top end to a Vespa 150? Same stroke, larger bore, big ports, cylinder reed induction. 200cc stock.

I can't find info on measurements for the Blaster cylinder. Tempted to buy the cheapest one I can find on eBay just to play around. Try to fit it to my old Super engine and see how long the bottom end holds up….

I knew someone had to have tried it already!

I see that you had to find new stud locations and open up the transfers a good bit. How do the deck heights match up? Did you have to shave a bunch off or use spacers to get things right on thebup and down?

Edit:

Looking again I'm guessing you shaved a lot off the cases?

E- all of the above.

unless you're good friends with a welder, a machinist or have access to both plus a WHOLE bunch of spare time and money and or parts-- then you're really just chasing bragging rights.

a modern cylinder will make about the same amount of power for roughly 1/3 of the headache and probably 1/2 the money.

I figured there was a good reason I couldn't find anything on the webs about the swap.

Before the Iron Age, The Flintstones chiseled their Vespa engines out of solid blocks of granite. They would shove a monkey in there and run it until the monkey turned to liquid and oozed out of the exhaust port.

Stroke is not exactly the same and this kit is quicker than a single LC cylinder and all that grief anyway.

exactly this. as usual jack nails it.

kajiit house of wares is more like a pirate stash. only instead of treasure chests it's just a whole bunch of scooter parts strewn about with skeletons of unfinished projects.

in my defense, I did this a loooooonnnngggg time ago. and my knowledge, skills and access were at a fledgling level.

mainly I did it as an exercise to see if I could.

anyway, it's set up for a banshee cylinder. and when it ran it was hysterically, frighteningly fast-- until it wasn't.

if you were going to do it, I wouldn't be the wrost thing in the world. the availability of parts and information now would make it fairly straight forward.

for me the trickiest part was the crank. well, that and the math. but the crank was a gargantuan pain in the ass. just finding somebody that was willing to do the work was a whole lot of phone calls and: hell no

anyway, if I were to go it again, I'd probably only want to do a smallie motor and I'd use an updated cylinder, like a KX125, TZ125 or something aprillia and just absolutely bonkers.

either way, I'd definitely approach it differently by welding the cases and then using an aluminum adapter plate to mate the cylinder.

maybe one day, I'll try and get it going again. or Charlieman will come and shove a sack of $5 bills and a crate of cheap vodka at me and I'll just load it into the sidecar.

Banshee on a VSE1 case
This was engineered and modified for a friend of mine years ago who later sold me the bike.
ALOT goes into not just getting the upper end right but everything else as well. And then count your teardown duration in tens of hours.
