Hi all. When I bought my Vespa, someone painted the oh so lovely seat with a spray can, a silver color.

Is there a way to remove that paint without ruining the brown under? Anyone ever had success? I'm guessing paint thinner would ruin the brown original?

Any advice lmk and ty.

I'm thinking you will probably have to have the seat recovered, but that really shouldn't be all that difficult or expensive.

Is it leather?

howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-clean-paint-off-leather/

some ideas there oil, nail polish remover, acetone... but small test patches first, and wait until those dry before moving on to see how it really affects the material.

Also the time investment it will take you to clean it all off is probably equivalent the replacement cost of something you really appreciate.

Assuming it is the OEM ET4 seat cover, it is vinyl.

I think it would be impossible to remove the paint without destroying the vinyl covering in the process. Have you tried advertising for a used one on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist?

Yeah, recover time unless you look good in silver pants.

Going to second nail polish remover. I've used it to remove the white lettering that manufacturers like KYMCO, Suzuki, and Triumph print on their seats.

Do a spot test in a corner and wait and see to make sure there are no adverse reactions, and then go wild.

As an alternative and possibly cheaper approach, spray it once more the colour of your choice. You can get upholstery/vinyl dye, however cellulose based paint is also flexible enough.
