I have read several Faco twin screen threads and am thinking about getting one. The only reason would be to do away with ear plugs. My current screen is the touring model that came on the bike, and it is 8" above the light. I'm 6'5" and the wind hits me right in the face. I wear a full face modular helmet and the roar of the wind bothers me at anything over 45 mph. I love the quietness of the ear plugs, but it's a pain to always put them in, and they kind of make me feel isolated from the environment which I don't like. The Faco screen will raise to 17" above the light which seems like it should direct the air above my head.

For those with the Faco twin screen do you still wear ear plugs? I'm happy with the way my current screen looks, so if I still have to wear the plugs with the Faco, there's no reason to spend the money. Thanks!

Since you already have the Fly screen for warm/hot weather, have you considered a mid-height (or taller) screen? If you are basically trying to divert the airflow so it goes over your helmet, you really don't need an adjustable screen - just one that is the right height. It is fairly easy to switch screens with the seasons if desired. That is what I have done for years, and it works fine.

grouper,

I have never worn earplugs. Is it the loud noise or do your ears ache from
the wind and it tires you out.? I wear a modular flip front helmet. I do wear
a cotton doo rag under the helmet that completely goes over my ears.
I think this solves the ear issue with the doo rag cutting off some noise.

Every other opportunity, I throw the doo rag in with the cloths being washed.

I really don't head sweat. This keeps the helmet clean and my ears covered

That's a good point Dooglas. It still doesn't solve the noise in the summer riding problem. I would like to have it up to reduce noise, but if I get hot, I can put it down and put in the ear plugs.

I never get pain in my ears; it's just the loud roar. I have noticed a quieter ride in the winter when I wear my fleece neck gaiter, so I think you are on to something there. I see there are skull cap helmet liners. I might give one a try if it looks like they will cover my ears effectively.
Thanks!

Might have a chat with your EENT about your lack of actual hearing protection .....and read what physician riders have to say.

Windscreens cut the wind noise somewhat, though I don't think far enough to not potentially damage your hearing if you ride above city speeds.

My guess is, if you now find the noise level comfortable with ear plugs, you'll miss them with a higher windshield too.

This is a very personal experience, so hard to give a good advise.

I've also found a good neck collar to be an important addition to reduce wind noise - in addition to ear plugs, I'm afraid.

Some have good experience of active, noise cancelling ear plug 'head phones'....some find them too difficult to get and stay in the right place when the helmet is on.

Oldscooot,

When you are an old fart like me, you get an annual physical.
Some shit is going bad, but my hearing tests seem to be okay.

When I sit out front of the house in good weather, having a
cigar and brandy, I can hear a leaf blowing across the road.

Half my riding group wear ear plugs. So, I expect there is
a problem. I just do not seem to have a problem.
I expect the ear plugs are a good choice for most and a
good decision.

Use those ear plugs if you need them.

I have a Faco Twin on my GTS and wear earplugs when I'm on a longer trundle. I don't bother around town and leave the screen down when on short trips. I find it helps me, I don't like constant noise much. I have a flip front helmet and an open faced one and I use earplugs which ever one I wear.
