Picked up my 2009 250ie Super last night. Slight hitch because the selling dealer transferred it to a more local dealer and forgot to put a temporary tag on it. That sorted out, I left the dealer and started my 30 mile home ride. I found nice country roads and the 30 mile trip turned into 60. Having come from a hyper naked sport bike, it was a different experience. Not having to shift threw me for the first few miles. I felt like I should have been doing more. The 250 is no world beater but gets you around. On the highway, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't feel like it was screaming at 70 mph. I was planning on getting some sort of exhaust but I scrapped that idea. It's a scooter. I rode it to work today and I'm very glad I purchased it. A big thanks to countless posters here, although I may not have commented, I read 1000 posts before deciding on this bike. The Vespa community is the best.

Good for you!
And I agree with you about not going to an aftermarket exhaust. "It's a scooter!".....making it louder gains 0, except for people going, "oh, it's that moped making that noise" ![]() O.S. |

Congrats! I enjoyed my 2009 GTS 250 - it just did everything I wanted in a very competent manner. Take it to some tight twisties, and you may find that it is every bit as fun, if not more fun, than your previous "hyper naked sport bike."
I enjoy hearing from motorcycle riders who get some Vespa time and say, "I had no idea..." Enjoy! |

Welcome to MV, and congrats on the new-to-you ride. By "The Jerz", I'm assuming you're here in Joisey – lots of interesting roads all over, particularly by the Shore, so I totally get the "30-becomes-60" thing. Safe travels!

Sounds good!
This - ' Not having to shift threw me for the first few miles. I felt like I should have been doing more.' - must be a common from anyone coming from motorcycles. At first it feels funny to, well, just sit on the scoot, almost like a passanger. Twisties are fun though: you don't have gears to finesse the progress, but small wheels and agile geometry creates a go-kart -like feeling and enables surprisingly fast pace😎 |
